Brother in law still sufffers today in slow take away from agonizing consequenses of agent orange in Viet Nam. He fought enemy in takeover attempt of enemy at fire base and succeeded. We love you Terry Lee Wallace and wish for your comfort in your struggle. All soldiers do not end life on the battleground.

Navy Vietnam veteran. I attended a Sattler Brothers concert in Waco. When they played More Than A Name On A Wall, I am nor ashamed to say I cried. We were not fighting for the flag or God and country. The one and only thing that we were fighting for was the ones standing beside us.

Not Alone At The Wall ********* By Sharon Thornton Trahan

The old vet walked up slowly,

Not sure that he could bear,

To see the names of his old friends,

Etched oh so clearly there.

Unsteady on his feet, he was,

And so he thought it best,

If he took just a moment,

To sit awhile and rest.

The echoes of those days long past,

When they were all so young,

Blended with the present,

And somehow became one.

He heard a voice he'd known quite well,

From Boot Camp to Da Nang.

Well bless my soul, it's Bobby, Lord!

He died in so much pain!

Oh! Awful A Shau Valley,

Where we fought so hard, so long.

One single wayward bullet,

And Bobby Jones was gone.

I've surely lost my mind!, he thought,

As Bobby took his hand,

Lifting him back to his feet,

Though he could barely stand.

Said Bobby, "Hey, you finally came!

To see me at The Wall,

I know how hard this is for you.

I've seen your teardrops fall.

But listen close, You need to know

That you are not alone,

For there are many standing by,

To guide a Soldier home.

At first, it's true, I was afraid,

Not understanding why.

I wasn't ready, no one is,

But soldiers often die.

That's what they told me as we walked,

Towards that Golden Light,

Assuring me that never more,

Would I be asked to fight.

What joy it was to see the boys!

Hey! You remember Jim?

And good ol' George, who always shared,

The goodies sent to him?

They're all right here! Why even,

My oldest brother Joe.

He bought it on that bloody Hill,

875, Dak To.

Joe says to me, "Now Brother,

We got lots of work to do...

Watchin over these old vets,

The new young soldiers too".

He said, "You see the men who live,

"The Lucky Ones" they're told,

Will have some special troubles,

Even as they're growing old.

We've got to send them hope because,

The times when they are weak,

Their memories will come to life,

And haunt them while they sleep".

So like Joe said, I went to work,

And stayed here at my post.

I know I probly scared you,

Ha! You never seen a ghost?

They come here by the thousands to,

This place known as "The Wall",

And I just knew someday for sure,

You'd come and see us all.

Oh Man! I tell you I have got,

Some friends to share with you!

We, who never came back home,

From 'Nam are just a few!

Right here with me are men who died,

For naught at Belleau Wood.

In that Great War, "to end all wars",

As if there's one that could.

For you, along beside me,

Are boys who made a stand,

At Normandy, Corregidor,

The Battle of Bataan.

These fellas from the Second War,

Want me to wish you well.

And tell you there's a Heaven,

For those who've been to Hell.

Here also, are the men who say,

They sure know all about,

The wars some call "A Conflict",

The wars that leave a Doubt.

They fell for good and always on,

Korea's Northern Plain.

No real war? Mere conflict?

Death found them just the same.

You see? There are so many here,

Who know what broke your heart.

They've been with you since you came home,

To help the healing start.

For all, a Band of Brothers,

For each another man,

Who shared your sadness, fear, and pain,

In Wars on Foreign Land.

So walk away from this Dark Wall,

And know it to the bone,

That as you walk, where 'ere you walk,

You've never been alone!

I wrote this poem upon discovering the painting by Mr. Lee Teter included here. All of a sudden the voice and words of the young man reaching out came to me and I had to grab a pencil that would not let me lay it down until it was done. Somehow, this poem that tells a story has made its way around the nation and I leave it here and there because it is all and what I have to try in some way, though there is none to express a THANK YOU that is deep enough. If a person could understand without understanding... an empath sometimes does. If you believe in those? Know that the pain of the person who was there in the war has memories whose power and the terrible of those are what is coming through. I wish with all my heart that I knew how to take that pain away. All I can do is pray; all I have are these words once upon someone else's painting. sincerely, Sharon Thornton Trahan

I have several friends who are Vets. I give them rides to the VA hospital. One day I was sitting in the Richmond Virginia VA Hospital in the Cardiology waiting room waiting for a friend to finish his appointment. I struck up a conversation with a lady I would guess to be about 50 years old. She was also waiting for her father to get finished so they could drive back home. Her father served in Vietnam. He was injured there several times. He finished his tour and was sent home. His plane landed in San Francisco and he had a layover there. In full uniform, he was walking from the arrival gate to his departure gate when a female splashed hot coffee on him. Said some words I can't repeat here. He got home that evening and his dad picked him up. When he came out I saw him. Dressed in jeans and a button-down shirt. Wearing a "Vietnam Veteran" baseball cap. I thanked him for his service, thanked her for taking care of her daddy, and then told her to treasure the time she had left with him. Now about that Wall! Many years ago the smaller portable version of that Wall was in my hometown. I drove from my then home back to my hometown. I got angry when I arrived. The local school system made that day a school holiday and there were maybe 10 busses parked at that location. You could not even see maybe 70% of the Wall for all the kids talking and doing everything but thinking about what that Wall means. I know I am wrong to feel this way. I can't listen to this song today and not have bouts of anger at how these people were/are treated after returning home and even today!

My Daddy was a Vietnam Vet, 1st Armored Cavalry The Old Ironsides. He never told me any stories bout that happenin to him, although I do no that that $H!T did happen to a lot of returning Veterans/Soldiers. It’s really very sad to see how much worse our Country has become since then !!!! The MEN and WOMEN who have Fought and DIED Lost Limbs Eyes and THEIR MINDS to Defend Our Country and Our Lives and Lifestyle . I really HATE that so many are still alive to see how what they Died Bled and Fought for to be just Flushed down the toilet !! I’m a Veteran myself, although I am what I call a noncombat veteran, I never had the Privilege to go anywhere and do anything while I was on active duty. I wish that Our Country would get back to the Good’ol days when people were PROUD and PATRIOTIC again like it was when I was growin up. Nuff said I think !! May GOD BLESS OUR ONCE GREAT COUNTRY ONCE MORE !!!!!!!
