If I had more colorful storytelling genre teachers like professor Bradley Birzer back in my day I may have become one myself or remained in school to this day 7 decades later...☺

Thank you Hillsdale for bringing this fine fellow in for everyone to enjoy immensely !☺

I liked Jackson when I first learned he proudly “killed the bank,” like a vampire slayer. Now I like him for many more reasons. Too bad .02% of Americans will ever hear this talk and know more of what the man was like. I think I’ll seek a biography of Jackson.

I respectfully disagree with any defense of the character of mister Andrew Jackson. He was openly arrogant about his powers that the court could disagree with him all he wanted but he had an army to Massacre them Native Americans with can move them across the country and replace those who were on their land with Interlopers. Who is a psychopathic son of a bitch. Unlike many Native Americans who will not carry a $20 bill because they carry his Effigy. I make sure that I carry them and remember what a son of a bitch he was!

This is a wonderful talk. I have followed a similar glide path re: Jackson. Being a supporter of Henry Clay's views, I always opposed Jackson and confessed my bias to my students. But in writing my novel about the 1812 war (Honor and Destiny), my young man is a currier in the Battle of New Orleans and I had to come to understand Jackson. Everything you say about the battle is spot on and Jackson was unquestionably a great general. I still side with Clay on the bank, but I now have some positive things to teach my students about Jackson.

A lot of Kentuckians at the battle of New Orleans too. Like Ephraim Brank, who struck fear into the Brits.

Dwight David Eisenhower is absolutely worthless, barely a third-rate general and owes his whole military career to too many men; Gen. Patton, MacArthur, and Marshall. Eisenhower can't be anywhere near the league of General Andrew Jackson. Eisenhower was a lousy paper pusher and bottom-kisser, especially as the SHAEF commander. Mr. Birzer, do your homework, please!

Too much B.S. in the beginning. If you got something to say just get on with it and cut the hype.

Great lecture. Entertaining and enlightening. I appreciate the balance of the good and the bad, and some context. I appreciate critical thinking instead of the all-too-common, simple-minded, single variable judgement.

My great, great grandfather, Seth Johnson served under Jackson in the 5th Eastern Tennessee Militia. But he wasn't with him, in New Orleans. His Regiment was sent to Mobile in case the British landed there. When Jackson became president, he gave my great great grandfather, Seth Johns(t)on a federal contract to build the first federal road into eastern Tennessee.
