I have a theory why so many people call him a genius, it's because they think calling Kaufman a genius makes THEM look like a genius. Like only the most ADVANCED minds understand his humor. Look at it like this, if Andy Kaufman brushed his teeth on stage the same people would call that genius too. It's the best example of "The Emperor's New Clothes" I have ever seen.
