Unlike in English, the form of a Chinese verb never changes, regardless of whether it is present, past or future tense.

For example, in English, the verb ‘study’ will become ‘studied’ for past tense, the Chinese verb "学习 (xuéxí)" stays the same.

To indicate past, present or future, since Chinese verbs don't change, we must add a time adverb or an aspect particle to the sentence.

Look at the example sentences below to see how the structure works.
Notice how 会 (huì) can sometimes be used to indicate there is a high possibility that something will happen.


Wǒ jīn nián xià tiān huì qù zhōng guó.
我今年夏天会去中国。
I will go to China this summer.


Nǐ jīn tiān xià wǔ huì qù xué xiào ma?
你今天下午会去学校吗？
Will you go to school this afternoon.


Nǐ míng tiān huí qù dà lán qiú ma?
你明天会去打篮球吗？
Will you play basketball tomorrow?
