It is only justice that God command His own creation. God has the moral ascendancy because He is morally perfect and everything He does is right. He is holy. He is innocent. He created you. He gave His life to save you. He continually gives you the strength to improve yourself. He sustains your existence and well being. All the good things you have come from Him. Without Him you die.

In not understanding the meaning behind these things, he thinks he’s clever… Everything God has commanded in the 10 commandments is actually for our sake more than His own. He wants us to honour Him and choose Him first for OUR sakes. Being close to God and obeying Him only brings blessing to us. Otherwise, as Brand says, we’ll end up idolising things that simply don’t fulfil us or do good for us. Man, people misunderstand God so much.

Yes, a person can rewrite and reinterpret religious texts ad nauseum, but Brand is no longer describing the text or contextual intent of Exodus or Deuteronomy, he is imposing his personal philosophy on that text in ways that are only compatible if you completely ignore parts of the text and dismiss context. Brand didn't find a brilliant new & valid reading of the Bible, he dismissed the Bible as quickly as he could jump to something remotely plausible that only makes sense if you like listening to middle school book reports given by kids who didn't read the book. Kind of sad that so many people commenting are so unskeptical of this BS.
