Not your best video to be honest, while the concept could be interesting I found myself actually wanting to see a video about how much these tributes weighted THEN in their economy rather then how much all this gold would be worth NOW.
Still enjoyable though

All the kings who received tribute from Rome spent that money on their own pleasures and did not give anything to the peasants.

Didn’t realize Europe had enough gold deposits / taxable sources to produce the tribute outlined in this video.

The more Byzantine Roman videos the better. If you your writers haven't read it i recommend Anthony Kaldellis’s book Romanland: Ethnicity and Empire in Byzantium, it will be useful in your future videos. It discusses about the Byzantine Roman identity, who was included and who was excluded etc.

In terms of Philippine pesos, 1 US dollar is equivalent to Php57.19 and if we convert that rate to the said currency, it is Php218,223,314,400, million times more than what "VP" Sara spent in her confidential funds

Telling us that you calculated the amount of tribute Byzantines paid their enemies on the title; as soon as the video starts you start explaining that total amount of tribute couldn’t be calculated due to lack of historical records. Also explaining that tribute paid to ‘minor’ enemies are out of the scope the video. Guys you made a clickbait of a video. Do your job diligently or don’t put in pompous remaks on the title

The tribute's in 6th and 7th century was paid in lightweight solidus(nomisma) of 20 or 22 siliquae (one siliqua was 1/24 of a solidus)
You are an excellent history chanel

Great vid. 4 billion doesn’t actually seem like that much, especially if it kept you from having to muster your troops and equip them. They also didn’t have to pay mercenaries, and the Byz had to do that a lot throughout most of their history as the lone Roman Empire. There were less and less professional Roman soldiers in the legions every year. And just feeding an army was incredibly expensive. I’m not surprised they chose to pay at times.

That is why the Roman empire east & west fell. They would rather pay Billions to their enemies rather than investing into their own population for fear of the elites loosing their superiority over the masses.

You can put a zero on the end of that dollar value estimate if you take into account the purchasing power lost by decoupling dollars from gold.

Bulgaria - the sworn enemy of the Eastern Roman Empire. Continuation of 7 centuries lead a conflict for the supremacy of the Balkans and subsequently for the legacy of Rome and the power over the world known to us. How many nomisms, centaries and perpers did the Romans give to the Bulgarians as a tribute for propitiating them. The first people, the ancestor of the Scythians, Sarmatians, Huns, Avars, Magyars, Uzis, Pechenegs, Kipchans, Cumans and all known and unknown steppe peoples - the East/Barvaricum, superior in every sphere to the West/Romulum. Think and you will find the silent words for which the heritage of God (Bulgarian) is revealed!

i feel like simple multiplication isn't enough. i know there isnt a clear way to calculate inflation since those ages, but considering the gold supply being much lower than today, the actual cost is much more than 4 billion.

It’s diplomacy by other means
If War fails to buy time then negotiations tributes sometimes faltering if the foe returns away or weakens
Nevertheless a stratagem with Ummayeds close calls especially during the siege of Constantinople then the Abbasids only to be fully conquered under the Ottomans whom benefited from the gold tributes the most including some Byzantine princesses given away to Sultans occasionally !!!
