I didn't know Steve personally, but I went to school with him at the University of Utah and photographed a big band jazz concert for the newspaper. As a person who loves and plays the drums, I had my camera pointed at Steve more than anyone else onstage.
ОтветитьAmazing interview as always. Steve has an Unique perspective about many things. Thanks a lot!!
ОтветитьI remember introducing Steve to Car Bomb and Elliot’s drumming back at his March 2022 retreat. So dope to hear that they’re friends now :)
ОтветитьTwo & Four rule…
ОтветитьJimmy chaimberlin is responsible for so many people starting drums. He has that magic liquid feel thats his own, one of those drummers who has his own sound. Great interview
ОтветитьCould there be editing????????????
ОтветитьI was hoping you'd ask about flow state 😕
ОтветитьFor someone that’s just started teaching (multiple instruments) totally see that each teacher student process is unique. Very nice interview, big open questions and Steve giving awesome broad answers covering a lot of aspects! I feel a little smarter now I think.
ОтветитьI think the healthy self-confidence probably is more relevant for drummers that are in the public eye and have others relying on them. I wonder what he would have said for drummers who take up drumming as a hobby and just do it for themselves because they find it fun and a way to disconnect from working on a computer for 8 hours for their job. That's my case and confidence doesn't really play a role at all since I can do whatever I want without anyone saying anything. So would be neat to hear what kind of roadblocks people in my scenario run into and how to deal with it.
ОтветитьSteve Lyman's cool. I ran into him at Greenwich Village some years ago (I think a little later into pandemic). A brief chat, but I had an inkling that this man meditated. Something about his attention to what I was saying about his drumming. I may have to study with him at some point.
Interesting to hear what he was saying about teaching. I became a professional jazz musician recently, but I'm a young music teacher--still learning so much about articulating difficult things in a simple way to children. Fortunately, I play other instruments and know more than basic theory to be ahead of the game a bit, but he's right about the hardship of teaching.
I love all this content you're getting on here. Can't wait for the next drummer you interview. Maybe Marcus....?
Rich ppl do things well
ОтветитьBecame a big fan when I saw him on Drumeo... such an amazing talent.
ОтветитьGod I love Steve Lyman, super happy you got this interview
