Was Archbishop Lefebvre on the Wrong side of History?

Also I wonder if let's say a revolution happens again where homosexuality is no longer outside of the sacrament of marriage and abortions are declared as merciful and euthanasia. And a archbishop said no that's not the teachings that's been passed down to us. And had to make a seminary that preserved those teachings for future priests and churches to celebrate the sacraments according to tradition. Would you say hes a schismatic because he disagreed with something so obvious? Maybe God will allow it so people will see the truth that the V2 revolutionary movement which was an attack on the spiritual on what you cant see. We might have to see what that is with external visible evils to understand what this Saintly man Lefevre fought for. Which to preserve the true teachings rather than contradiction to the spiritual life of the faith.

I think Taylor Marshall owes Catholics an apology and the holy father for his spread of heresy. You cannot step away from Vatican 2 and just embrace these lies and propaganda instead and assume you are still following the Catholic Church. Keep him in your prayers.

Taylor, you keep beating a dead horse. How would you explain Lefebvre's consecrations of his own bishops in disobedience to the Pope? That was what pushed him (and his followers) out of the Church.

Lefebvre probably had good intentions in the beginning, but then his pride took over. He excommunicated himself out of the Church.

I was hoping for a response in the days following Matt Fradd's recent put-down of Lefebvre. This comes not hot on the heels, nor I'm afraid does it address the points made in that attack.

So why did he go along with Vatican II?

Too many of the Cardinals and Bishops refused to man up when the SSPX was started! If they had manned up the real crisis in the Church would not have reached this point👊

The saintly Archbishop is accused of being schismatic et al, but he NEVER DREAMT he would be at odds with the church. He was always trying to "make things right" with the church after they excommunicated him. For those who criticize him, what matters most is our INTENTIONS and God is well aware of AB Lefebvre's good intentions.

Abp Lefebvre should be beatified, if not even canonized. He pretty much saved the True Mass and therefore the Church.

In 1976, the coadjutor bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark was "consecrated' in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at the invitation of Peter Gerety, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Newark. That Episcopalian bishop was none other than John Shelby Spong.

There remains the consequence of the matter of sequence. Since Lefevre had no papal authority he automatically was out of the line of papal sequence.

Hence, no matter the theological chaos following Vatican II, it is logic to understand we are now in the days of Luke 18:8. "Think ye, when the Son of man returns, He will find Faith?" Come, Lord Jesus, we are a mess!!

French Catholicism was definitely hurt by Vatican II, the loss of beauty and mystery in the mass. I was visiting Chartres cathedral this summer and was intrigued that Latin has returned in large portions of the mass. Interestingly, the Creed is said in Latin while the Our Father in French (I would have thought the more difficult text of the Creed would justify local language). In general, why remove Latin from the mass in a country with a Latin language? It is not difficult for French speakers to learn the Latin.

He was not in communion with Rome. Jesus gave authority to His apostles and there is apostolic succession. How do we know we were suppose to follow bishop Lefebvre and not Luther?

Look into the very positive report that Cardinal Edoaurd Gagnon turned over to Pope John Paul II (who sent him on special mission to Lefebvre in 1988). Marcel Lafebvre was lucifer's enemy. Lafebvre got out of retirement because young seminarians asked him for help and Lafebvre answered the cry. Thank GOD, He gave Lafebvre the grace to respond and keep some pious Catholics from perdition.

I dont understand how good popes like John Paul II, and Benedict XVI could not definitely rectify his situation. I dont understand how especially pope Benedict couldnt boldly stand his ground and outfox the malevolent forces among the hierarchy. Priests being men are supposed to have a strategic warrior mentality, a knack for praxis and action. A capacity to stand against pain and adversity to fight for good.

As a non-SSPX Catholic, I can say with certainty in time Lefebvre will be known as a Saint.

Interestingly Bishop L's order, the Congregation of the Holy Ghost (CSSp) have operated Old St. Mary Church in Detroit for many years. Up until 1974 the Traditional Latin Mass was said each Sunday at the 9 a.m. Mass. One wonders if it had anything to do with the fact that one of his Excellency's contemporaries at Old St. Mary was still alive (Fr. Thiefels). After 1974 the 9 a.m. Mass became a Latin Novus Ordo (Ad Orientem).

That is exactly what happened. Two days ago, a little Joseph is born (since I promised St.Joseph I will name my first son after him).
