2nd TAF under Basil Embury did similar missions a few more times, including the infamous Op Carthage on the Shell House in Copenhagen - having read about that in Rowland White's Mosquito, is there any chance you (or Lord Hardthrasher, maybe) could do a video on the life and war career of Basil Embury?

I think you credit the RAF (Including the Article XV squadrons) with too much ability to take out one wall of a building at that level.

Other than that it's a magnificent video & a great story well told.

My great uncle was a bombardier on the lead plane in the first raid against the plotesti oil fields. After living through that, he’d earned all of his points, and volunteered for a milk run over Italy in 1943. He was short down, treated to a nice pasta dinner by an Italian family, and then turned over to the Germans the next day. He spent about 2 years in the Hermann Goering Hotel System, and was finally liberated by the Soviets. He got to know a bunch of guys who were featured in a movie later - The Great Escape. And that story, as interesting as it is, doesn’t hold much of a candle to this.

hey, that's a little unfair, when the brits launch a highly dangerous and highly emberassing if it goes wrong operation they are just as willing to send in the poles/dutch/french/norwegians as they are the colonials XD

There is a more mundane and entirely boring explanation as to why this prison was targeted when others weren't, which is 'because they could' and the whole bit about these resistance members having special knowledge being somewhat overblown. Dull but probably true.

Animarchy this whole thing hating the British over Gallipoli in WW1 is just ridiculous it was over a century ago, it is not heality to hold a grudge against a country over something that happened a century ago, did the British Empire make mistakes at Gallipoli, yes but it is time to move on and let the past be the past

But woops, they ran out too, so they send in the Indians. Now, the Brits enter the war for real approximately 7.83 seconds before it ends.

Honestly, your pet theory of targeting that clean hit to deal with the HVTs seems totally viable, and that bomb hit taking out the HVTs seems very likely. But it is also of about equal likelihood that (goal of the planners or not) the bomb hit where it hit by chance. Good as the pilots were, the equipment they had to work with would have had a hard time guaranteeing that the right section of wall was hit. That further said though, if the commander knew which section the HVTs were in seeing that bomb hit would be a logical reason for sending off the bombers, regardless of malice in planning.

It’s crazy how well the British completely hid Operation Overlord from the Germans. No wonder they had less defenses at Normandy, I would’ve been fooled and I’m pretty good at reversing deception. The British were masterminds and they deserve way more credit
