If two sticks are faster why doesn't boards just have two slots instead of 4
ОтветитьVery good and direct info for newbies. 👍
ОтветитьDDR4 is better with 4 sticks and better bandwidth. DDR5 has some problem with stability currently.
ОтветитьThis is unrelated but hope I win that The Finals PC 🤞. Nice explanation though!
ОтветитьWill definitely follow all your advice if I get a PC.
ОтветитьBut if you already have two sticks and you want to upgrade without wasting your existing sticks, just add 2 more. The speed difference is usually minor compared to the gain in capacity, which helps with a lot of applications.
ОтветитьSo it depends on the memory controller
ОтветитьZen 3 amd was 7 to 11% faster in 4 sticks
ОтветитьIn which slot should we put the RAM?
ОтветитьI need the 4 RGB sticks just for aesthetics
ОтветитьThumbs up for this videos. Best explanation.
ОтветитьRyzen 5000 sees gains with 4 single rank sticks. They go into dual rank mode, a more efficient, faster, interleaving use of memory banks. Two sticks of dual rank has the same effect.
Ответитьso installing on 1st Or 3rd slot is faster than 2nd Or 4th slot?
Ответить4x8!
ОтветитьTip: Be sure never put too much pressure when installing or reinstalling ram because you feel lazy or rushed. I learned that in a hard way. I'm glad it was a personal pc. For dozens of pc building I ruined my own fortunately but bought a new mobo.
ОтветитьThis actually depends on your CPU ryzen 9. 16 core 32 thread processors like four sticks of ram better than two and actually performs 10 to 15% better with 4 sticks of ram this is because of dual CCDs on high end higher core count cpu
Ответить2x 48GB sticks
ОтветитьWhat if the only memory slot a2 is the only option cause a1 b1 b2 broken?
ОтветитьWhat about 2 sticks on a motherboard that only has 2 dim slots
Ответитьif your mobo is not cheap 4 sticks isnt a issue if your cpu isnt a piece of crap like intels has been on quad memory. amd has been better but has also struggled with it and most recomend just 2 with ddr5. but ddr4 tests show time and time again its better to have 4 smaller equal sticks that match than 2
Ответитьi payed for 2 slots i will use 4 slots
ОтветитьWell this is contradictory to the video I just watched showing that DDR5 4x8gb is slightly faster than 2x16gb, which is slightly faster than 1x32gb on average (with a few outliers). Mind you, I've always stuck with 2 sticks of ram in all my builds and I'll probably stick with 2 regardless.
ОтветитьIf your ram is single rank sticks, 4 sticks can often be tuned to perform up to the same performance as a double rank 2 stick setup. 2 sticks of single rank will always perform worse than 2 sticks of double rank, as rank interleaving (an optimization only available within a channel with multiple ranks that are similar to each other; i.e 2 sticks of single rank that are the same, or one stick of double rank). Almost all modern desktop memory controllers are built to handle 2 ranks per each of 2 channels, so there is no speed up usually from only having a single rank per channel. Couple caveats: 4 single rank sticks can perform as good as 2 double rank sticks ONLY if you bother fine tuning timings usually. This is not an easy thing, this is not a quick thing to do ; and 4 sticks of double rank (i.e 8 ranks total) is gonna cause your memory controller usually to shit bricks, you'll be lucky to get half expected speed sometimes... other times you won't even be able boot to post on some motherboards. Server mother boards can often handle 8 ranks, and often actually use 4 channels with double rank interleaving, so they can often handle it.
I currently run a 5800x3d with 64gb or 4400 Mhz GSkill ram, 16gb x4 sticks, single rank. They are running at 3933 Mhz, as ryzen 5000 chips are guaranteed for only 3200 mhz, 3600 mhz overclocked, 3800 is usually considered achievable with tweaking if you didn't lose the silicone lottery, and 4000 mhz is the gold standard. My 3933 mHz is done at 1 command rank (usually 2 command rate is required for 4 sticks; introducing some extra latency) and with a cas latency of 16 (which makes for less than 8 ns of cas latency, which is probably achieved on less than 5 percent of ddr4 sticks). I can achieve a 17 cas latency 4000 mhz ram speed if I go up to 2 command rate; but other timings are impacted enough that 3933 cr 1 cl 16 benches better.
Having said all that.... it took me 3 months of many days of hours of stability testing to achieve this. Doing this with 2x32 gb sticks double rank each would be hard also, but probably would take only a couple weeks of stability testing and silicone sleuthing to deduce the proper timings.
So no, technically, 2 sticks isn't better than 4... unless you value your personal time or don't know what you are doing and don't know your hardware inside and out.
Memory overclocking amd tuning is probably the most tedious frustrating and boring optimization you can do to computer hardware. It also produces less of an uplift than any other optimization usually.
So yes 4 sticks aren't slower technically....
But you would be well served to pretend they are.
If it got 4 I'm using 4
ОтветитьGood explanation.
ОтветитьThis is why I don’t like full stick for gaming
ОтветитьFor whomever this helps. I have a X99-P4 MOBO running Xenon 1650 V4 with a GTX 1660 Super on Consair 16GB RAM (3200mhz) DDR4 2 sticks. Today i went to Walmart and bought 2 more sticks 16GB RAM King Fury 3600mhz RAM. For a total of 32GB RAM and it works flawless and faster as i tried to over clock RAM but stuck at 3200 🙃 but overclocked the CPU.
ОтветитьWhat is the name of bgm ??
ОтветитьBro you are the greatest
ОтветитьBut is that SLOWER going to cause real issues in a gaming pc?
ОтветитьWhy dont boards just have 2 RAM slots if populating all 4 sucks?
Ответитьactualy the faster setup is the A2 B2 slot, trust me bro
ОтветитьWelp i bought 2 sticks of ram for no reason
Ответитьwith 2 sticks im able to push 6000mzh but with 4 i need to go down to 4400mzh
Ответитьshouldnt dual channel be a2 and b2 most of the time? im pretty dumb so idk...
Ответитьshouldnt dual channel be a2 and b2 most of the time? im pretty dumb so idk...
Ответитьnot true...on ryzen cpu specific 4 sticks makes better performance then 2 sticks...
ОтветитьI use 3😶
Ответить4 sticks are absolutely no slower than 2 but can induce stability issues at high overlcocks.
ОтветитьToo bad that when you see the results there's actually no goddamn difference
ОтветитьDont let them know:
32×2×2 💀
I've upgraded my PC from 2x8GB DDR5 6000Mhz to 4x8GB, both dual channel kits are exactly the same, i encountered a few problems, random blue screens, doesn't start after i restart the pc, i have to manually shut down the power supply and then start it, the values in the BIOS STD are all different, i had none of these problems with only one kit installed
ОтветитьSit down at any computer and use it for whatever use you want such as video editing, gaming, AI workloads, or literally anything else that you can think of and then try and guess how many sticks of ram it has in it. The truth is that nobody cares and it doesn't matter. All that matters is the capacity and if you have enough for what you need it for. Worry about something more important in life.
ОтветитьThere are already many tests showing that 4x 6400 RAM is as fast as 2x 7200 RAM, and you get more RAM.
If you want a lot of RAM, you can also get 2x 32GB or 2x 48GB, but upgrading is always an option if you don't have enough money for that much RAM.
what about if i have so much core cpu? lets say 16 cores, do i have install 4 sticks or 2 sticks?
ОтветитьHas anyone tested this theory or everyone just repeating?
ОтветитьWHY IS THE MUSIC SO LOUD
Ответитьdoes it matter where the 2x Ram sits chould it also be in A2 and B2?
ОтветитьSo it comes down to your motherboards chipset and specifically the memory controller, whether it is faster to run 2 or 4 sticks of RAM.
Ответить
