This was a poor debate. Very rudely argued. The moderator did what he could outside of slapping the shit out of the lefties.

That was a good point, if minimum wage is to help people why not set it at $200/ hour then we can all drive mercs. lol

The fundamental question this vid raises is where does wealth originate - from consumers (2 lefties perspective) or producers (Other 3 guys)? Friedman says it best in the film: " (Universally) Higher wages can only come through higher productivity, greater capital investment, and more widely diffused skills. The whole pie is bigger. There's more for the worker, but there's also more for the employer, the investor, the consumer, and even the taxpayer."

52:40 Cat out of the bag, he finally admits his point of view is that the reason everyone is so prosperous is that the high wage people are paid due to unions allows them to buy more goods....

Unions alone will never be as effective as true co-determination and industrial democracy. Co-determination laws have proved hugely successful in Germany. I respect the right of people to organise, but union activity alone only serves to whip up the antithesis between employer and employee.

Co-determination, and the practice of employees having a democratic stake in the management of the company they work for, is the best way of synthesizing that inherent conflict in a capitalist economy. It also increases productivity, because workers feel like they are part of the company, rather than a mere rented tool. They now have a more integral and long term role in the company's success or failure.

The debate surrounding unions vs no unions is yet another a false dichotomy spoon fed to us by media savvy intellectuals.
