After rewatching the Ultimate Edition, I have mixed feelings on the whole "Save Martha".
On one hand, I understand exactly what Zack intended to convey in the scene: Superman using his last breath to beg Batman to save his mother, which humanizes him to Batman's eyes. But on the other: the premise was so horribly executed, this scene has been mocked to death (as seen in this comment section). But I also understand Superman HAD to say "Martha" in order to trigger Batman's PTSD (also, who reffers to their mums by their first name?), which in on itself is a plot convenience

The name distracted Bruce of what he thought he had to do, but the explanation was all he needed to accept Clark's humanity. He just wanted to protect his mother, a natural human feeling.

It's extremely clumsy writing and directing but the meaning behind it is relevant today. Batman built an reality in his head that Superman isn't even a person (well, he literally isn't a "human"), and Batman became the monster that he thought Superman was. The writer Chris Terrio spelled it out in an interview, BvS is a big metaphor for the widening division in the world, driven by misunderstandings and exacerbated by the media (Luthor making Batman and Superman hate each other and betray what they stood for)

Can Batman actually kill Superman? Or that’s just for the movie?

In theory this should work? Bruce has an INSANE amount of PTSD from his parents murders. The very trauma that drives him to be Batman would totally I feel drag him back to that moment as a ten year old seeing his parents dying in front of him when he’s just about to finish Clark off.

The execution could’ve definitely been better! But the meme status of this scene isn’t fair imo, dawn of justice is underrated to me. Wish Henry and Ben had better writing for this film.
