Poppy - "Negative Spaces" album is so much better than I expected... (Album Reaction & Review)

I had the SAME experience listening to negative spaces, it gives me such nostalgic vibes and scratches that itch

That melody on cost of giving up didnt realize til u vocalized it sounds like "you love the things I say I do" melody from old lp

The negative spaces actual track chorus reminds me of a song so bad and its driving me crazy! The wah ohh... wtf is that song

This really won me over in the end. the center’s falling out, surviving on defiance, and halo are all songs I’ve listened to basically on loop for the past week or so.

I really hope the more experimental songs and interludes remind everyone of what Jordan can do. He can do so much more than “modern metal,” that’s just what a lot of people are asking of him at the moment.

Been dying for Poppy to get more popular since she dropped the I Disagree album which got me into her. Then the collab with Fever 333 and tours with BMTH. Then the collab with Knocked Loose just blee her up. I love to see it

my theory for this album is that it is poppy satirising metal/metalcore, much like her initial eras were a satirical of pop.

This album is a total 360 from her past stuff ! Her musicians are great

I was pleasantly surprised with this whole album. 👍🏻 Surviving on defiance stood out to me the most first listen.

Every song reminds me of a different time in nu metal - metal - metalcore - Poppy history. And it's great. Insta repeat

Their best albums are usually some old ones, but both released new album in 2023-2024

I just think that in part these bands are less visible compared to As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage and I think they deserve more recognition and feedback channels help more than what is more known.

If you don't plan to listen to the new AILD album at least try to listen to a new DH or Unearth album because Boundaries is NOT a substitute for AILD's style AT ALL, because a substitute for an old band can still be an old one.

(Don't get me wrong, Boundaries is fantastic and I've been listening to them since the first album thanks to you and I think we should also make them known but their "old" metalcore style is trying to sound more Hardcore Punk like Knocked Loose does too)

I might be getting old or something but honestly this feels like the most tiktokified, formulaic, made to check every box and appeal to everyone, surface level collection of songs ever made lmao. Even the knocked loose and sleep token inspired songs, which are a bit cooler, just make this exhausting to listen to. Like don't get me wrong, it's not bad, but it's just made to be so "correct" that it makes no sense and feels like scrolling tiktok.

I found this album kinda meh, even though I tried so much to like it.
Her screams are so high that I get a headache and the clean vocals are kind of underwhelming
I'd give it a 5.5/10 - I don't get why people hype her so much

i was worried before this dropped that it would all be metalcore, and just kinda generic, but i really ended up loving it all. it’s such a nice mix. i still feel like it could’ve done with another poppier song like crystallized, just to feel more balanced, but i still loved it

While I usually find myself agreeing with your music reviews, I have to respectfully disagree on Poppy’s latest album. For me, it’s nothing short of a masterpiece, a stunning tribute to the genre we love. It’s an incredibly well-crafted collection that captures the essence of experiencing diverse styles, from post-hardcore to calmer, fun tunes. It feels like stepping into the mind and world of someone living through all these experiences, just like us. It’s an artistic performance beyond just an album. Absolutely magnificent.

Its interesting cuz of variety but thats also the reason i would never listen to this album from top to botom and why Breakdown of Sanity is my top 3 of all time listened albums.

Lot of the lyrics give me written by AI vibes. Musically well done record though.

I just wanted to mention her actual singing and screams make this stand out no mention of that in this reaction a cool review though.

She released a phenomenal EP in 2021 called EAT which is basically this album but heavier and more experimental.

idk why but when i heard the song negative spaces i had to go listen to mcfly's ultraviolet for the first time since i was 12 i cant tell why specifically that song but yeah haha

I don´t understand why every song is like oh I have listen before, Slipknot here somewhere else there. Why can´t someone listen to an album and just listen to it without mention there was something before. I think Poppy is just a very good musician. Maybe have listen herself to so many songs that bring her ideas for her own. But didn´t think about who had done before because she creat her own. And don´t think about if someone like it or not.
