8 out of 10 of these ladies had a weight problem. thought it was the exception back then, not the norm. one person in their mid 20s. rest were over 50.

I loved to go to Woolworths when I was a kid..... I always went to the candy counter and pet area .......... if I acted right mom might buy me a BLT and malt at the lunch counter. (Tooth pics with frilly tops) Good Times ...forever gone

Memories of Kresge in CA; I was about 12, and my parents both worked and often would get home late. My mom would leave me about five bucks in the morning and tell me to go to the lunch counter for a hot beef sandwich and be sure to leave a tip. Those ladies were all so nice and always made sure I got a little extra potatoes or maybe a scoop of ice cream. They looked after me and made sure that I waited until my parents came to pick me up. I miss those days when you could trust people ......Thank you so much for sharing this.

I worked at a Kresge’s when I was 16. My grandmother had worked there as well before me. All the ladies were delightful to work with. My first manager and assistant manager were very nice to work with. I quit when I went to nursing school....I’ll never forget how nice everyone was to work with....

Those were the days. no longer here long gone never to return no drama no fist fights no shootings peaceful times

I've passed through Lima and overnighted there once while traveling on work. I really like the city today, particularly the charming downtown.

I think this was Mothers Day. The Miss Ohio was handing out red carnations and several times you can see her say Happy Mothers Day to the ladies. What a wonderful time.

I was 6 years old living in Lima at the time.

At the store in Maple Heights , Ohio they sold whole loafs of banana bread at the lunch counter . I've been hooked on that stuff ever since . I used to spend my allowance on stuff there .

What kind of food did they sell at the cafe? This was a long time before I was born and love this video of how things used to be.

Working there was an actual career back then. I think some of those jobs even had pensions.

The Tv Guide by cash register in chapter with Sarge had the Girls from Petticoat Junction on the cover April 16 1966.

I think this was an offshoot of kmart.

Any time we went to SS Kresges I would run straight to the Pet Dept. to watch the hamsters run on their exercise wheel and the little green turtles swimming while my mom shopped. One day my grandma and I ate lunch at the counter. There were helium balloons everywhere. I got to pop one and won a free banana split. Good times.

I was a stock boy at Kresge in Brooklyn NY around that time. My supervisor was Mr Simms. I learned a lot from that job.

The ladies wearing nylons, all in skirts or dresses! That was class back then. Now, way too casual.

I love this. But all the ladies look alike! I'd have a hard time keeping them all straight!

There was pride in the community-
Sadly now; brick and mortar stores are self serve and checking out takes forever.

We had a Kresge in our city, but the store was not as big as this.....it was downtown and right next door to J.J. Newbury......I miss these stores so much and the way things were back then!

I’m happy to have memories of the traditional five-and-dime just before they disappeared. By the late seventies they were holding on by a tread.

I'm paying a whole lot more today for next to no service. Strange. I'm paying more for cheap foreign goods, than I did for top notch American goods

we also had mccellans and newberrys dept stores

I remember my mom taking me there when I was a little girl. we would stop by the cafe corner and order a hot fudge sundae.
Then we'd pick one of the balloons. Inside the balloons were little pieces of paper that had anywhere from a penny to a dollar. Thats what mom would pay for the sundae.
Then we'd share the sundea. 🥰😁
