Kathy Bates-A Home of Our Own with Jimmy Carter

I love this movie! In our family (mom and stepdad and sibs) it was the 'razor strap' not a belt, and plenty of switches off the tree in our back yard I was a nothwestern brat, but my mother was born in Oklahoma. I remember throwing the razor strap behind the fridge and elsewhere, but they would find it, or substitute whatever came handy. I was born in Idaho where she (in the movie) moved her family to. I only noticed one quirky thing in the whole movie, she should have practiced using a hammer more, because it was so plain she never had before (none of them had). It was a great story and as usual she was great and the group of kids played well off of her and each other, so over all it felt real. I had dreams of moving with my kids back to Idaho when they were young, but sadly it never worked out.

Kathy bates is not to be played with she is a legend and this movie was amazing ! She played a very good working class single mother well! She reminded me of my mom.

I think she's incredible.

She has the most Beautiful Eyes...... Never noticed before, watching her on t.v. in the wayway past.....🌹...for Ms. Bates.

It's a fascinating movie, especially the involvement with the Japanese American neighbor. I understood the mom's need to be tough and not put up with guff from her kids and not hesitate to give 'em the switch....BUT she immediately yelled at them, and she never cared to get to know a dang thing about any of them, except the oldest son--because she did need to lean on him, after all. I've known big families, poor, and with the mom as the main or sole parent (mine included!). But only one of these families had a mom who mindlessly yelled at her kids and didn't love them AS INDIVIDUALS.

So many mothers can relate to her character

Wow! I cried so much with this movie as i relived my very early years in West Texas! Mom saved the allotment money she received from from my dad’s pay in the navy to build our 2 room adobe house and an outhouse, 1944. Dad never came home so we struggled miserably, to say the least. We moved to S. CA 1955 and life was worse. Such is life, God brought us through. Mom passed on 2004 and watching this movie was a bitter sweet moment for me. I’ll share with my siblings 😢😅❤

I loved the movie

Kathy Bates gave a great performance in this movie, as a strong mother who brought up six kids.

I used to think her character was abusive to her son, but now days, kids could use some of that discipline
