Artemis fowl : travesty to the books

I've read the book and couldn't finish the movie...

The movie was so different from the book it was laughable actually.

This had so much potential. I resented them changing butler...then I forgot that after seeing the rest of the movie. So terrible.

It took me longer than it should have to notice that, "FAIRYnough" this meeting. XD

This movie is an insult to the books.

Ah yes, the Artemis fowl movie, the film so bad that a deranged vtuber named after a guy who turned stuff into other stuff ranted about it while murdering a funko pop

Look I don't really have a problem with changing the ethnicity of characters, but something feels deliberate about changing Butler, Artemis's servant, from a hyper-competent, I think east Asian gentleman who defeats a troll in single combat, to a doddering old black man who looks identical to the sterotypical "Old black butler" and who gets KO'd instantly by the troll.

So essentially, they took the names of the characters...and that's it

I read the first book and loved it, and this was like 15 years ago and the book said it was going to be a movie soon but I never saw it come out. This is a complete shock to me lol

When I was a kid I had a hard time visualizing the magical world of trolls and all the other weird magical beings.
I’m glad to see the creators of this movie could not envision it either lol

I haven't read the books, literally at all, never heard of them until this movie. Also haven't seen the movie.

But the main elf girl's whole initial arc is wanting to be a cop, but the fairy cops are all men.

They made the first fairy woman cop's commanding officer a woman.

That should inform you enough about how much this movie cares about the books.

As someone who watched the movie BEFORE reading the book, I already hated it. Then I read the books and hated the movie even more

The books were so good, I figured the movie would be awful.

I wonder if the reason they deviate from the books so horrendously is cuz it worked for HTTYD, since it is barely recognisable from the books but is still a decent film (though the books are much better imo)

The sad thing is their changes screwed them out of adapting the whole rest of the series. Like, LITERALLY, the plots of the rest of the series won't work because of the changes they made.

One of the saddest bits of this movie is that, in the books Butler takes down the troll in hand to hand combat and in the movie it kinda just falls on him

I remember when the movie was announced it seemed like it was just going to be a straightforward adaptation of the book. the teaser had shots from Ho Chi Minh City that never made it into the final film. I can only imagine the reason they changed the script is that one of the writers was possessed by a demon and already tore up the original script before they could be exorcised

The movie was so bad, they made it so cliché, "oh hes like a super smart misunderstood genius kid" portrays how they watered down Artemis's role 😞, and why the hell did Opal kidnap his father, he doesnt even know her 💔

And so it joins all the other horrid movie adaptations, such as Percy Jackson, Wrinkle in Time, and Miss Peregrine.

Despicable Me was a better Artemis Fowl movie
