i understand the emotion going into this video when it was made. however i really appreciate the data so much more. as of 4/3/2025 the 5500 is being sold for 81$ on amazon new while 5600 is 135$. this is a clear winner for price to performance as of right now. Thanks steve!

@GamersNexus I know this video is 2 years old but... there's a pretty good deal going on right now. 5500 for $84 or 12100f for $74 which would you recommend. I want to be able to use it for livestreaming too. Thanks in advance.

I just had my mom get a Ryzen 5500 to replace her 1600AF. Paired with an RX 550, she shouldn’t notice a difference and will have Win11 compatibility when it’s time.

I also had her get it on a super sale for 80 bucks, so that’s worth the cost for what you get for a pure non-production, non-gaming PC.

Very good review! I got this CPU recently, went from a Ryzen 5 3400g to Ryzen 5 5500, and the best part that justified this was the price I got it for on the 2nd hand market which was $65 over here (Vietnam)

Watching this in August of 24 I can buy this brand new for $80... hard pass. I can get a new 5600 for $115 or wait for the 5600 to drop further.

I bought the 5500 for 120 Canadian brand new. It’s works great for what I need. Although coming from a 4770k. It’s not a whole lot faster. Just got me on a new platform. I’ll grab up a 5950x soon.

In my country the Ryzen 5 5600 is 175 dollars and the Ryzen 5 5500 is 109 dollars. I have an asrock b450m steel legend(pcie 3 motherboard), I would not be able to fully use the 5600 and why should I pay 66 dollars for 16% more performance. That does not make any sense. I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 5 1600 AF that I got 5 years ago for 85 dollars. The memory controller on the 5500 is far better and with my 4X8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 I can achieve those ram speeds. With my 1600 AF I can only achieve 2666MHZ with latency 14-14-14-39 at 1.35V stable.

Its available for less than 90 dollars USD now, which makes the value a lot better.

is it a good deal a 85 usd? i could get one and pair with a 6800 16gb for gaming a 1440p medium

This cpu is $86 right now on Amazon. GN should revist it at these lower prices it's been at for the last few months. That's a fire sale deal that was too good to pass up. I got one to replace my r5 1600, which was doing decently for me still. I don't play AAA games and depends on what you play, I guess but <$90 is a good deal on any 6 core cpu.

commenting from the future here. The CPU is priced at $99 nowadays and it's a competitor for all the used 2600 and 3600's out there. They were banking on pushing used prices down all along

Anybody catch that at the first of the video he mentions the new 40 series gpus will be on pcie 5.0? Looks like tha rumor didn't pan out.

Fast forward to the end of 2023 and the 5500 is $10 cheaper than the 12100F. $100 cheaper than the R5 3600....

got the r5 5500 for only 63 USD. PBO2 enabled running 4.45Ghz, Curve Optimizer -20. currently the best budget cpu there is.

Is it worth upgrading my Ryzen 5 1600 AF to the ryzen 5 5500 or 5600? I have a Asrock B450M Steel Legend and only want a cpu upgrade(I dont have enough money for mobo and cpu upgrade). I have a rtx 3050 8GB and 32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Ram.

Well, I've just built a new PC for 1080p gaming using this CPU (not turned on yet as waiting for second hand Radeon 5500XT to arrive). It doesn't seem that different to the i3-12100F in terms of frame rates, and the price of these in the UK is now about the same as the i3 (I got mine for £84 off Amazon). I was aware it doesn't support PCI-E Gen 4 when I bought it, but don't mind - I made sure the motherboard I got did support it for future upgrades and also my graphics card budget of £100 wouldn't get a decent PCI-E Gen 4 card anyway. Appreciate the honest review though. As the system I'm upgrading from is ancient (AMD Athlon II X4 635, 6Gb RAM, 1Gb graphics card), it'll seem lightning fast compared to what I have today, and should be enough to play the games I want to play :-)

So in 2023 the best low budget AMD CPU is the 5600.

Do an update today please, and without Intel Fanboyism please, I think 5500 would be better TODAY, and it has 6cores 12 threads, compared to i3 12100f, we are not talking about CS GO here, there are games that have system requirements with more than 4 cores....
