Now your talking my saw. After 16 years of service ( 8-10 cord per year) my compression has dropped to 100-105 psi, time to rebuild. I've been looking into porting, I just don't understand enough yet. That's why I subscribed to your channel, thanks.

I got a husqvarna 266 parts saw the other day. My word that chain was bad looked like the previous owner was trying to cut granite with it.
What kind of machine work?
Widening the squish band and bumping up the compression?
Have a good day.

I got my xl12 build together, ended up raising exhuast roof to 106, ported inside the crankcase, port matched cylinder to case, ported and straightened intake runner, pioneer 1200a piston, which has a .100 higher dome then stock, and today i put it in the wood and wow, only takes quarter throttle to get it up on the pipe and stays there so much easier!!!!!

That saws lived a good life already! Excited to see where it goes. clamshells are great for learning to port. I’m sure you’ll do her justice!

Im currently doing a ms250 that is a very low hour saw maybe 15-20 hr on it when I bought it and so far i swapped it to a 28 inch cannon bar, stihl square ground chain, rim drive sprocket and just gutted the muffler and rewelded it and added a stinger. It really surprised me that it pulls the bigger bar pretty well. Still im considering swapping the cylinder to a hyway cylinder kit that's like 78$ that's just a smidge bigger and doing a little porting. Its not a 066 mag by any means but it's still producing pretty decent results. I really enjoy your channel and you definitely have some good info and you remind me of all the guys that I learned from back home in east TN. Thanks and keep up the good work. Ill keep you posted on how the aftermarket cylinder compares to the current setup.

Could put a cheap door mat on your work bench for when you need some traction

If I'm using a brand new blue shop towel I consider that a sterile environment! I like that ring storage idea.

I have built several saws for friends and family. I won't port it until I watch them file or sharpen a chain and use a saw. Basically, it's an easier way for me to say no.

Looking forward to the comparison....stock #'s vs the amount of improvement after porting.

I generally use an 044/046, but bought a group of 025 & 026 saws at an auction, that I need to do the same thing to.

I just acquired two times of the 025, one is in the cardboard receptacle with the threads off’n the crankshaft stuck in the nut- separated from the lumpy portion 😢. A “friend “ was going to put in a fresh piston and ring…..must have forgotten “carefully “. My initial thought was to drill the crank and put a stud in- thoughts? Born poor and things ain’t changed much….and I don’t think She will be happy about a new crankshaft for ANOTHER chainsaw 😂

Dollar store shelf liner for the bench top. Or a mud flap, floor mat -some people think is for wiping their boots on but I think it’s better on the workbench 😂
