Did you know that you can actually harvest reishi too early and miss out on some important medicinal compounds?

Many of the compounds that give reishi its medicinal properties (phenols, flavonoids, polysaccharides) are at their highest concentration during the spore maturity stage of the mushroom. This means if you harvest before the mushroom releases its spores, you might not be getting as much of the medicinal compounds as you could be!

Keep an eye out for the two things mentioned in this video (the red color of the skin grown out all the way to the edge and a dusty coating of spores on top of the mushroom), that way you can harvest reishi as close to its medicinal peak as possible
