For "floating trees", that is the land not appearing. A (sometimes) fix is to Pause, turn down all the graphics (but not the resolution), un-pause a second or two, re-pause the game, turn your graphics all back on, then continue playing. I works sometimes, but not always.

On Single Missions, you can end the mission when the mission objectives are complete. There is no need to return to the airbase unless that is part of the mission objective. For Campaign Missions, you must get to "We're Almost Home" in order to receive credit for a mission complete and keep your aircraft.

This game is seriously impressive for 94-97. They really capture the look/sound of aerial combat footage. Shame the game is so jank on modern systems otherwise I'd try to pick up a copy on eBay or something.
