Sharing all of the amazing memories from K-FEST held on June 10th at the Lansdowne Park in Ottawa to celebrate the 60th diplomatic anniversary between Korea and Canada and as the main event of the 2023 Korea Week, hosted by the Korean Cultural Centre Canada.
The event was held on the largest scale since the opening of the KCC, featuring various culture booths introducing Korean culture on a wide scale, including traditional food exhibition, photo booths, hanbok experiences, cultural games and more.
The official opening ceremony from 5pm featured the Ottawa's Children’s Choir, and K-pop boyband ‘Kingdom', singing the Canadian National Anthem and Korean National Anthem. His Excellency Ambassador LIM Woong soon, His Worship Mayor of Ottawa Mark Sutcliffe, the Honorable M.P. Anita Vandenbeld, and the Honorary Ambassador to the 60th anniversary of CAN-KOR diplomatic relations Jean Yoon were present to give opening remarks.
Various performances followed the ceremony, ranging from traditional music of the Gugak Ensemble, to traditional dance, contemporary dance, street dance, and finishing with acrobatic Taekwondo performances from the Korea National Sport University.
As the highlight of the K-FEST, the 2023 K-pop Cover Dance Festival (KCDF) competition was co-hosted with Seoul Shinmun Daily, drawing immense energy from the crowd and loud cheers from the K-pop community. 13 teams from the preliminary round participated in the competition and the defending champions, RPM Dance Crew, will continue on to represent Canada in the World Final Round of KCDF this coming September in Seoul.
As the grand finale, special guests ‘Kingdom’ and ‘Kwon Eun Bi’ enthralled the crowd with their energetic beats from K-pop. Dedicated fans have travelled from as far as Atlanta, Georgia, USA to see the artists and were not left disappointed. Kingdom and Kwon Eun Bi brought the stage to life with mind-blowing performances, turning up the heat and making the city go wild.
Thank you for being an amazing crowd, being the best supporters and ambassadors of Korean culture and mostly, having the best time at K-FEST. More to come at KCC so stay tuned!
Special thanks to all our supporters, partners and collaborators including Seoul Shinmun Daily, Institute of Traditional Korean Food, Korea Tourism Organization, Korean Community Association of Ottawa, City of Ottawa, Seoul Metropolitan City, Optimal Show Experience and more.
