The Robertson Family's Incredible Orca Encounter: Surviving 38 Days Adrift at Sea

In 1972, the Robertson family set out on a journey around the world on their sailboat, the Lucette. While sailing near the Galapagos Islands, their boat was attacked by a pod of killer whales, forcing the family to abandon ship and take to a small dinghy. Adrift at sea for 38 days, they faced numerous challenges, including hunger, thirst, and shark attacks. Along the way, they had a remarkable encounter with the same pod of orcas that had attacked their boat.

The Robertsons were eventually rescued by a Japanese fishing vessel and returned to the United States. Their story was chronicled in a book, "The Last Voyage of the Lucette," written by Claire Robertson.
