Two great guys, as far as I'm concerned
ОтветитьDENNIS DeWHO???
ОтветитьLawrence Gowan has never wrote a catalogue of hits like Dennis, he's a very talented musician singer that's playing a tribute role, but he's no Dennis.
ОтветитьYes Larry Gowan is amazing but I also love Dennis DeYoung. I went to the Styx concert Fri Jun14/2024 at the Budweiser stadium exhibition in Toronto .. it was amazing but there was that special person Dennis missing I didn’t even know he was not going to perform 🥺. Dennis mentions a dime a dozen but the true talent can never be replaced. I miss you Dennis 🥺🥰
ОтветитьAlso, I had the opportunity to see Dennis when he performed on the Canadian idol years ago along with Supertramp. And apparently I heard it only cost five dollars to get in and it was right across from my workplace. I regret not seeing this performance.
ОтветитьI much much much prefer styx with gowan! To the point I only listen to the live versions of the old songs on Spotify just to hear gowan sing them instead of Dennis and this interview made me hate him even more.
But I'm also a huuuuge giwan fan period I truly much prefer his voice and his showmanship is crazy he's very very likable guy ❤
Dennis is right, nobody sounds like him. But the first time I heard First Love by Stryper, I literally thought it was DDY. Michael Sweet sounds A LOT like him when singing a ballad.
But he is also wrong, his voice is freaking AWESOME! One of my all-time favorite voices in rock 'n' roll
I think the band as a whole, is much better off without Dennis.
ОтветитьTHEY GOTTA GET DEYOUNG BACK
Lawrence does the job but as deyoung is saying Larry isn't Dennis
I'm not saying get Lawrence out keep him just deyoung should be in Styx
WAIT HE WAS WITH RUSH?!?!?!?
Your right . He thinks he's the best. He's not. Gowan he can't hold a candle to him. I didn't hear other band fighting after over Dennis. Any one in the music business he was a wouldn't work with him because they said he was a narcissist.
ОтветитьI never blamed J.Y. & Tommy for the disfuction of Dennis he my way or highway so they took the hyway nerve looked back .
ОтветитьDeyoung was not a rock musician he is an ego manic that wants to make opera type music never liked him
ОтветитьLawrence Gowan 5 stars.
ОтветитьMr. Rosenberg will be needing his shoes and his glasses.....
ОтветитьI was team DeYoung until watching this. Go Team STYX!
ОтветитьOH MAH GAWD - what a bitter old man!!! Still trying to win this non-existent battle with a band that broke up with him decades ago. Comes across as a jilted lover. 😟
And the singing - just stop! It reminded me of Chris Farley in the Chippendales skit, where after he loses, he starts dancing again, trying desperately have the judges reverse course and declare him the winner. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. 😬🫣😆 No wonder STYX doesn’t ever want him back!
I saw STYX two days ago in Denver, Colorado – absolutely rocked the house! Maybe this guy has a great voice and whatnot, but they sure as heck didn’t need him to put on a great show!
Rock on with your bad self, Mr. DeYoung; sorry about your luck!
Its called the evolution of a band. More than 20 years later......get over it Dennis.
ОтветитьDennis DeYoung is STYX !
ОтветитьSounds bitter to me. Not a good look. The band has done pretty well without him...and Mr Roboto.
ОтветитьDennis and David Lee Roth have similar personalities.
ОтветитьDennis, he (Larry) sounds like you when I'm enjoying the music. That's all that matters.
ОтветитьLove Dennis
ОтветитьWhat an A..SS‼️ No wonder why they don’t want to work with him anymore.🥴
ОтветитьDeYoung still identifies closely with the band he led to stardom after writing their first three Top 10 Hits.
ОтветитьLove Dennis’s voice, but he’s really full of himself. Do I wish they could have worked out their issues and kept Dennis, of course, but they wouldn’t have toured as much. I wouldn’t have seen Styx (with and without Dennis) over 20 times in my lifetime if Dennis was still in the band.
ОтветитьDennis is pretty full of himself. But he's got reason to be!
ОтветитьOkay, so... for entirely too long, I was on Dennis's side on this issue. 20+ years later? This comes off as such sour grapes from him. I'm not saying that the other side is blameless either. Both Dennis and the remnants of what was once Styx have done some pretty cringey shit, and I include this with said cringey shit. Dennis has nothing to prove here except to be gracious and accept any complimentary remarks about him. I see none of that here. All I see is his embarrassing as fuck alter ego, Crazy Uncle Denny, and that schtick was old back in the 90s before the "divorce".
Now. That said, JY and Tommy did show and have shown plenty of grace for their public forgiveness and acceptance of the fact that Dennis can never be a part of Styx ever again. The only one who hasn't accepted that with similar grace and forgiveness? Dennis.
ETA: The comment about other players in a band being "hired guns"/"a dime a dozen" REALLY pissed me off. Singers ARE NOT EXEMPT FROM THAT, using his own criteria. Just goes to show to never hold your heroes in high regard.
Great singer, just WAY too stuck up!
ОтветитьDennis is a great writer and was a good singer, but he is an arrogant sob.
ОтветитьDennis was and always is someone is a legend in his own mind. He was not earth shattering. It does not surprise me that he thinks no one can match him and that guitar players are a dime a dozen. Has no respect for the band.
ОтветитьGeddy Lee is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!
What's more, he's a nice guy!!
Dennis, you don’t have to prove yourself? You’ve been there and done that. Just stick to the question at hand.
ОтветитьNo wonder the other members of Styx said they would never work with Dennis again. After watching this i get it now.
ОтветитьWhat a giant douchebag
ОтветитьI can see why they don’t wanna be around him
ОтветитьDennis DeYoung was an English teacher from Chicago who sometimes inexplicably sounded British on purpose lmao, Tommy was the swift kick in the ass the band needed, or they would've just faded into obscurity.
ОтветитьDeyoung is a legend in his own mind. Complete jerk.
ОтветитьNo Ego there none at all
ОтветитьIdk he's still my favorite!!!
Ответитьmaybe politics are in your history? This guy should hook up with "Diamond" Dave, they could start a band called PITY PARTY
ОтветитьI just watched a Dan Rather interview with the other members of Styx. That got me curious about Dennis DeYoung. I’m five minutes into this interview and it is so obvious why there is conflict. What an arrogant condescending man. As soon as somebody starts referring to themselves in the third person, you know exactly where their heart and mind is. On themselves.
ОтветитьWell, I just lost a lot of respect for this guy. He's a prick.
ОтветитьBitter and arrogant, party of one… Your table is ready.
ОтветитьDennis is bitter. Still has an amazing voice, though.
ОтветитьWhat a bitter old guy. The guys in Styx want no part of this diva.
ОтветитьGeez… love the Dennis era…but Lawrence isn’t trying to be Dennis… Gowan had an established solo career all on his own.. I don’t understand what point he is trying to make … trashing some Savant like musicians along the way as well… I get it now why he isn’t part of Styx … find some happy Dennis.. I loved when you just made people smile ….
ОтветитьWas that Geddy Lee comment a jab
ОтветитьWith that super-inflated ego and swelled head, I'm surprised he fit in the camera view!!
Dennis certainly is the 'sound' of Styx as it was recorded, but said ego (and perhaps some of the band's too - I wasn't there so can't completely say) ruined the relationship! As it stands, with what was on display here, it's no wonder they don't want him back!
On the other hand, Lawrence Gowan is a top notch performer, musician, vocalist and from what I've heard, genuine nice guy - typical Canadian! LOL. Indeed, his voice is his own, but he is certainly no detriment to the Styx sound, nor performance, and the other bandmates seem to be having a great time with him in the fold. Sorry Denis, that ship has sailed!
I loved the Styx golden years. The music was great. Dennis DeYoung wrote some great songs and had a unique voice, but he didn't write all the great songs and others in the band had a great voice as well. Dennis DeYoung is coming across as an egotistical old fool. Yes there is only one Dennis DeYoung but songs can be sung by anyone and given their interpretation. He actually said it himself. Dennis DeYoung is a great Dennis DeYoung, and Lawrence Gowen is a great Lawrence Gowen.
As a singer Dennis DeYoung always sang a little flat. It seems to be something to do with his large nose affecting his nasal cavity preventing his ears from sensing the perfect pitch. It gives his voice a unique tone, but Babe has some really painfully out of tune notes that were almost like a dog wailing. Lawrence Gowen has pitch perfect. He literally plays and sings Styx content as good as the record, and pitch wise even better. He has a great voice. It does not have to be a Dennis DeYoung clone. Neal Morse sang Come Sail Away far superior to Dennis DeYoung when he did his tribute to Styx.
It was quite pathetic listening to Dennis DeYoung demonstrating his voice fingerprint. We know what he sounds like. This isn't like The Little River Band where none of the original members are in the band that tours as The Little River Band. I'm OK with a great cover band, but when they prevent the original members from reforming The Little River Band, then justice has failed.
Normally I would never trash a great artist, but when Dennis DeYoung comes on with this arrogant egotistical rubbish, I can understand why Tommy Shaw fell out with him and will never forgive him, so I have to speak my mind as a Styx fan.
Nice to see ole DDY...tough to see him kinda of schlepping here.
