Doing videos about fortnite is for getting views. I'm disappointed to see you doing that. Its ok including that in benchmarks but full video for that...

I made a similar build for a friend to play FF14, so much similar that the only real difference was the case and video card. Went with an RX 570 since they're like $130 right now.

You want ‘just good enough’ take a look at some of the lower end gaming PCs from the big OEMs! No, seriously. I think it would be fun to look at what the big players do to keep the costs down.

For example, I bought my kid a HP Pavilion Gaming desktop recently, and it is an interesting mix of shit I would never do and surprisingly competent. It has a Ryzen 2400G, but the motherboard is a 4+2-phase with only two MOSFETs per phase and no heatsink...but it manages to stay cool even under Prime95 thanks to no overclocking support. It has an RX580, but it is a single fan card. The power supply is only 400w, but it is 80+ platinum! The motherboard is a seriously cut down custom job, but it has a functioning M.2 slot that supports PCIe 4x drives.

The thing is a hideous yet fascinating combination of crippling omissions and totally functional compromises. I think it would be fun to see a small series looking at just how bad these things really are, and where their cost savings end up working out just fine.

Gaming PCs need at least 16GB of RAM. Even for current games 8GB is a pain and you should be prepared to get thrown to the desktop with a memory warning occasionally. Alt + Tabing out and look for some stats with firefox or chrome on the wiki will crash it in most cases.
Better safe some money on the fancy case and power supply. Mainboard is too expensive as well. An entry level mainboard is perfectly fine.

I decided to build mine on the floor, when I looked around for a screwdriver our mischievous cat hid in the case box and then attacked me whenever I wanted to get him out of there! Later on he even wanted to eat my thermal paste! Fluffy jerk...

Hey so I have never built a pc and I don’t play fortnite but would you still recommend this build to a beginner? Right now I’m using a 6 year HP Pavilion and I definitely think it’s time for an upgrade. My buddies say I should just buy a prebuilt but I would rather make my own. Plus from what I have read it’s cheaper to build your own also. Any feedback would be great!

Love this type of video, makes me feel a lot more comfortable when looking at building a new pc that will work better than what I've done in the past. 1 question, If I went with the R7 CPU, would the MSI x470 be the better mobo for that CPU, or is it just an upgrade for the R5?

Found your channel by accident. Saw that video and went on a research for the exact same hardware, your 700~750 dollar pc when bought here in Brazil (Just doing the exchange of 1 dollar = 3,85 Real 'our currency') goes for 2888,63 R$, now with shipping and the stores margins, you end up paying about 3.900 R$. Now imagine that Brazil's minimum wage (here we're paid by month 'days worked' rather than by the hour) is 954 R$, that being 247,70 $ US dollars. So in the end, that is not a "mid range pc", that, here is a high end very very very VERY FUCKING EXPENSIVE pc. And I'm an IT analist and have a 5k salary (1298,20 US$) which is considered a high paid professional here. That is how nice it is to live in a socialist country folks, steer away.

@Gamers Nexus - content suggestion: tech reviewers always talk about cpu performance in video editing , but i have never seen them do cpu tests on compiling large software projects. my 8 year old gen3 i5 with a 960 still cranks out 60fps in league of legends np so i havent had any reason to upgrade, but now that 6 and 8 core processors are finally available at mainstream prices i would love to see a breakdown of say a 2600 vs 2700x vs intel i5 and i7 compiling projects in a few different IDEs. c++ in visual studio / java in eclipse and maybe command line gcc / javac in linux would be a good start.

Way too much thermal paste. Also, shouldn't this build include a webcam? Maybe a headset? It seems like that's required hardware for a streaming rig. Other than that nitpick, great video!

Hi. No arguing against your choices from me - I went out and bought the Gigabyte Aorus B450 as suggested! 1 question though if I may - without extra cooling and overclocking malarky, just sticking to standard; what do you recommend to do in the BIOS? I have a basic windows 10 set up for gaming.
