I'm in my early '70s and a Veteran of the Army and the United States Air Force. I get treated at the VA Hospital. Two years ago this month they required us to get the shots. I got the first shot which went okay and didn't seem to have any side effects and very little pain in my arm. When I got the second shot it felt like I got jabbed in the bone of my arm in the bicep area. After coming home the pain persisted and spread into my shoulder and left chest area. I didn't think much about calling anybody and complaining at the time. It seemed like the pain persisted off and on because I work out pretty regularly at the gym and even at my age I've been lifting weights for 45 years. I happen to be bench pressing 225 lb earlier in the year but as the year progressed my level of weight kept going down and the pain kept getting worse in the arm and shoulder region and left chest area. I complained to the VA nurse practitioner that handled me. She acted like she didn't believe what I was saying. The amount of weight that I could bench press at the end of the year was down to barely over 100 lb and I was in pain. So I arranged to see your VA doctor and they had me do a sonogram which they didn't find anything from it. So I decided to go to an outside orthopedic surgeon that I've went to for years. When he examined me and took x-rays they couldn't see anything so they set me up for an MRI. My MRI when it came back showed that I had six small tears through my bicep area and into the shoulder. He gave me a cornerstone shot and set me up for therapy. At that time he told me they had over 250 some patients that had their shoulders blown out from the shot. I ended up doing about a month and a half of therapy at the VA Clinic and then I continued doing it on my own for 5 months. I've gradually built my strength back up but still off and on have the pain. I'm able now to bench press 150 lb for two or three reps. I just thought I would share my information with you on this.
