At a certain time in my life, I was emotionally numb, I had depression and my coping mechanism was to shut down my emotions. I felt empty, I was like Grimmer when his son died. every time I watched that scene when he said it was more like happiness, and that his emotions were sent by a letter far away that was always meant for him, I cried!

The magnificent Steiner isn't aimless with his rage though, several times we see during the show that he only attacks the ones who threat Grimmers life or of those who he loves, had he been aimless he wouldve killed detective suk.

I'm currently most of the way through monster (I've had it on my list forever to finish and finally got around to it) and I'm currently on around episode 46/7ish and Grimmers part in the story is coming into focus. Such an interesting and complex character.

I think his last line is misinterpreted, in japanese he says is it true sadness and then just out of blank he again asks is this a happiness, which could be implication that he never felt anything so intense before and he simply doesn’t know the difference between sadness and happiness.

Y'know I sat here for a good 10 minutes trying to rack my brain to think of a better, more memorable side character than Grimmer, and all I could think of was Snake from Vinland, but even then, Grimmer was just better to me in every way and while I do love Snake and wish so badly he stuck around, my love for Grimmer just goes so much deeper. I try to be like him, make people around me happier, even if I'm dealing with my own shit.

I was an abused foster child and on top of being autistic I think I am similarly screwed up emotionally. I did not cry while my biological mother was dying. I even have a twin sister who is undergoing horrible emotional torture under the abusive foster parent turned conservator right now (I was lucky in being thrown on the streets so that I could return to my real family). If I didn’t block my emotions constantly I would be a wreck... well, more of a wreck than I already am.

The only character from Monster series that i cried for he's truly a true beauty of monster. But sadly i knew he will die in the series his death are heroic in the end he didn't let the monster in him take over his heart, he doesn't let the experiment went successful in the end.

Hands down the best dueteragonist in anime

He’ll always be my hero. I was in a dark place in my life, and seeing his story and how much he truly cared gave me perspective and now I’m in a more stable mindset.

An important detail many forget is that steiner never came out during Grimmers last fight, he did it all by himself using his anger. Its significant cuz he finally found his own emotions and his own strength, the kid didn't need steiner anymore he had finally grown strong to face his problems by himself and overcome them.

I think that, pretty fittingly would've been the last episode of the show after all as Grimmer says u can trust no one in the world but your own self.

Best character

Best character in seinen.

One thing I noticed was that the times in which he becomes the magnificent steiner (or feels his rage for real at the end) we never actually see him beating up or killing people, it's always the aftermath. Personally I took it as, the story wanted us to see him as the man he really was, not the monster he could become and in the end, Grimmer was human after all.

My Favorite Monster Character

I’m not religious, but this anime always manages to make me say “god bless them” to any character in the show with how kind they were, especially Grimmer

Monster is bleak, sometimes depressing but never hopeless. With every monster like Johan Gilbert, Roberto, The Baby, there are also gonna be A Tenma, Nina, Grimmer, despite their circumstances shine in the abyss

Best character of Monster

Grimmer and Dieter were my favorite characters in the series. When Grimmer said before his death " I am finally truly sad about my son's death". It made me really emotional. His character was incredible. He didn't feel anything but still something drove him to find out what had taken everything normal and good from his life. When he repeatedly asked tenma "what should I feel at this moment? What kind of expression should I make?" It broke my heart. He was incredibly kind for a person who felt and understood no part of it.

Such a brilliant show, best animated series. Grimmer’s arc is brilliant. I’d love more videos on it if you’re up to it but what you’ve given is amazing already.

Am I the only one who thought Grimmer looked a lot like Jughead from Archie comics lol XD. He is awesome though.
