I moved here to Southwest Florida from Pennsylvania 20 yrs ago. Huge culture shock. I am a 64-year-old female. It's a completely different world here in Florida in comparison to the Northern states. The heat is so overbearing that you can't go outside and enjoy anything outdoors unless it's water related. High crime. Hurricanes are devastating. I'm in Manatee County. The law is corrupt. Drivers are awful. The very elderly and the illegal aliens are very dangerous driving on the roads. You have to be on guard at all times for bad drivers. I find such a lack in good churches. Very liberal. Now, the worst part of Southwest Florida is healthcare. Hospitals and Physicians misdiagnose you. They overlook medical problems. Are not thorough, and very judgemental and biased. Gaslight you. There is not a hospital in Manated County that is safe to go to. I've been to them all. I have multiple serious health conditions. I go up North further towards Tampa or Largo for anything involving surgery. I have had Physicians in Manatee County advise me to go up Tampa for good surgical, or orthopedic care. I would love to trade the excellent Healthcare we had in Pennsylvania for what we have here. People die, for being medically mistreated or undertreated. Lastly, if you're low income, don't give a second thought to coming here. Low income and even some middle class are being pushed out of Florida. Those on a fixed income are all leaving. They the very wealthy moving and occupying the state. They're stuck up and look down on the underprivileged. No, unless you're extremely wealthy and liberal, YOU DON'T WANT TO MOVE TO FLORIDA.

HE FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THE REASON WHY THERE IS SO MANY JOBS HERE IN HEALTHCARE IS BECAUSE IT SUCKS!!! THEY WORK YOU TO DEATH FOR VERY LOW PAY AND BECAUSE IS FLORIDA EMPLOYERS TREAT YOU AS THOUGH YOU ARE AS DISPOSABLE AS TOILER PAPER AND TO THEM YOU ARE S**T. HEALTHCARE REALLY SUCKS FOR PATIENTS TOO FOR IS FULL OF HUNGRY MONEY MAKER MINDSET HOSPITALS THAT ONLY SEEM TO CARE ABOUT MAKING MONEY!!!

at some point I need to leave florida, too humid and hot, and as a edestrian who is totally blind, getting around without a car is an issue.

Currently live in Jacksonville Florida and can confirm it is 100% as bad as they say. Horrid state to live and I plan on moving out with in the next couple of years. Landlords are essentially a cartel at this point with their rental prices, running amok and causing the rent to skyrocket for no justifiable reason. Don't even get me started on the weather, 10 months out of the year it's hot, humid and uncomfortable resulting in sky high energy costs regardless of energy efficiency, and did I forget to mention the hurricanes which could level entire neighborhoods within an hour or so?. Traffic has always been bad in the time I've lived here, but over the past few years it's gotten worse, mainly do to the MASSIVE influx of people moving here. Crime rate is nothing to scoff at either, several of the worst crimes in the country's recent history have taken place here, many of which involving children. The political scene is no better either, too many ignorant and misinformed people out here voting in droves for the wrong reasons. Don't even get me stated on the politicians, Former governor Rick Scott was responsible for one of the biggest healthcare scandals in history and got off scott free (no pun intended) while Ron DeSantis is one step away from being a fascist with his banning various books from public schools across the state. And religion (Jesus Christ...), bible thumpers EVERYWHERE. That's seemingly all the older people care about down here. Horrible state!!!!

If you want to evaluate in a most honest way, look from the most common perspectives not just from your negative and complainer perspective. Not accurate. As if other places don't have problems and inconveniences. Grow up!

Perspectives are different in Florida depending where you live in the state. I've lived the Panhandke, Southwest & Southeast portions of this great state....so I know what I'm talking about. Florida USED to have a low cost of living......but not Anymore, but the Whole United States are now dealing with higher costs of living; so this is not a unique Florida issue. #2 Southeast Florida used to be nice when I was a kid....now it's a complete shithole full of entitled rich people from outta state moving in.....no thanks. #3 There really isn't a big difference in the Cost of Living versus other Big States with big populations....people lose sight of this fact and have obviously NEVER have lived in Metro places around the Country.....a 450K home in Metro Florida would cost almost 1 Million Dollars near Metro NY, TX, and worse CA. So yeah, people need to get their facts straight before posting Doom & Gloom on subjects they know nothing about. Florida is an amazing state from the Panhandle to the Florida keys......why do you think people are still moving here is record numbers since Covid?????

I've been binge watching crime shows and I swear %90 of the episodes are in Florida. Wtf Florida.

When I moved here,Lawton Chiles was governor. Democrat Chiles dropped dead of a heart attack in December 1998 while on a jog. He was succeeded by Buddy Kaye for a few weeks then in came John Ellis "Jeb" Bush. Hey,Florida was numerically in sync with him being the 43rd governor(sworn in January 1999) and his brother George W. being America's 43rd President from January 2001 to January 2007. Then Florida had Charlie Crist,Rick Scott and now Ron DeSantis. I suffered thru Hurricanes Irma in 2017 and Ian in 2022. My household were threatened by the hit of Hurricane Georges in September 1998 and we suffered thru Tropical Storms GIlbert in September 2000 and Gabrielle in September 2001. Of all 50 United States,Florida is the most populated,despite not being as physically large as California and Texas.

I moved to Florida from my native New Jersey in 1998. And I think I'm gonna put my house up for sale regardless of physical condition if Donald Trump returns to the White House. I don't think I want to continue living in the United States if the country's gonna be run by a classless and dangerous dictator. I'm certainly no fan of current FL governor Ron DeSantis. By the way,it's party time now in Tallahassee as Florida's 46th governor is 46 years old today,9/14/2024.

I went to college in FL from 93 to 97. My feeling was to get out right away because the economy was struggling. I am happy I did because I had an excellent career up north. Everyone I knew there was planning on leaving "someday." One of my best friends, who I've known since 1994, still talks about leaving someday. Seems like people get stuck there somehow.

Gov Desantis, that's why I won't move to Florida! My family comes to visit- that's it. Came last year to take my daughter on a Cruise for her 35th birthday. Which is Father's Day and Juneteenth weekend. Nothing was celebrated. Twisted Governor took Black History away-STUPID!! Some cities in Florida are dry so there's no alcohol if you may want an occasional cocktail. I'm in Ohio and we party, have nice housing, Great Healthcare and all 4 pretty seasons. But our secret is getting out as more people are moving here. After Travelling we say-"OHIO aint so bad afterall"

nurse pay in Florida is terrible! i made 15 an hour more in Virginia. I left bedside last year. Not worth the stress and low pay.
