When the USAF withdrew from the program, I wonder if McDonnel Douglas approached the US Navy, to see if they were interested? At the time, the USN had lots of experience with Phantoms, and this model would have given their carriers a hell of a reconnaissance capability.
ОтветитьThe USNavy should have jumped at this, but they were ready to get the F/A 18, a very good fighter/ attack aircraft! How have we changed our relationship with Israel? Now they get almost anything they want from our arsenal!
ОтветитьF-14: I thought you died!
F-4: My death was... greatly exaggerated.
You should do a followup to this about the Israeli F-4E 2020 Terminator
ОтветитьCan I use this as a source so Gaijin can add it to War Thunder?
Ответитьgaijin, when?
ОтветитьWow, a Mach 3 Phantom with Mach 2 super cruise and high-altitude performance, like a mini-Blackbird that runs on normal jet fuel. What an awesome thing that would've been.
ОтветитьAn ally so great you need to worry about them pulling you into WW3.
ОтветитьPlease drop the song name for the intro!!!
ОтветитьIt would seem the key message of this video is if you are a middle power, do not let your military become dependent upon American weapon systems.
ОтветитьNot sure about Australia, but in America if there's an "X" in the title of a plan it's an Experimental plane. I KNOW this because I work in the aerospace industry.
ОтветитьWhat a coincidence, a Big nose plane for big nose user.
ОтветитьAlways loved f4
ОтветитьWait a minute! I remember reading some years ago about the Australian Air Force making some up-engined F-4s that were actually in use.
How about some info on that if true?
great idea..make a brick and give it more power....ultimate muscle car...goes fast straight but cant turn
ОтветитьTurkish Air Force liked this. Turkish media: F35 killer
ОтветитьCorrection: The Soviets did not have access to Mach 3 capable aircraft, it was just the USA who did with the SR-71. The MiG-25 could "do" Mach 2.8 however it could do it once for a couple of minutes then needed it's engines replacing, in normal use it wasn't much faster if at all than a British BAC Lightning (Mach 2.3).
ОтветитьSend 4X…
ОтветитьThis was a great documentary. But holy hell what was that opening song? That was kick ass!
ОтветитьWhat’s the music in this video? Especially the song in the beginning?
ОтветитьAnd today we have the F-15x
Ответитьcant wait to see this in war thunder 😱😱😱
ОтветитьPolitics have fed up EVERYTHING good that has come out of aviation. The Super Tomcat, YF-23, X-31, and so on and so on.
ОтветитьAmazing!!!
ОтветитьGod bless the men and women that made these. Geniuses.
ОтветитьGeneral Dynamics never made the F4. McDonnell Douglass made her.
ОтветитьShower f-4X Top brain
ОтветитьThe flying BRICK, put big enough engines on and you can get any aero foil to fly… terrible design!
ОтветитьMig 25 and Mig 31 have pre compressor cooling.
ОтветитьGreat video. Intelligent script.
ОтветитьAustralia has a military? Did they arm 20 kangaroos with surface to pouch missiles?
ОтветитьI’m confused why the Vigilante was never allowed for export. I guessing because of its original mission of nuclear strike with the bomb train setup that releases out tail area. US quickly learned it wasn’t needed for NAVY to have that capability since the A-4 could drop a tactical nuclear device. The RA-5 was a great RECON airplane super fast and good range. Pretty expensive and kinda a maintenance problem but I believe faster than F-4. Since nobody was getting an SR. Should have taken all the systems and gear for the bombing mission out of A-5 put fuel tanks in the bomb location just like US did and sell those things. Beautiful aircraft
ОтветитьThe F4 Phantom was proof, that even a rock can fly, if you put a big enough engine on it.
ОтветитьVery cool. Im a RF-8g photo tech. KS-87,s sweet.
Ответитьi love the Phantom but this is a common theme in aircraft evolution: An established plane is Heavily modified at GREAT EXPENSE TO INCREAS PERFORMANCE but a Better alla round fighter is already in the works and there just is not enough money for ""all dreams to come true."" The F-15 Eagle cost a great deal of money and beginning its production was expensive and so SIMPLY NOT >enough< CASH FOR ALL SUPER-PHANTOM DREAMS TO COME TRUE>
ОтветитьReminder that all of the coolest planes that you know and love went to Fort Worth for testing and modification
ОтветитьHow long is it going to be able to fly in afterburner with the onboard fuel
ОтветитьCan you list the background music please!! Love that 80's synth stuff.....
ОтветитьI have always loved the Phantom.
But would have to see with mine own eyes. Any Phantom that was better than any F15.
So please show me. Seriously show me. I’d love to see a Phantom that had all the flaws of the original corrected. The air force at the time was INCREDIBLY shortsighted. Building her without any guns. Sending her out with only unproven tech.
The backbone of the USAF, US Navy and USMC as well as the IAF during many years
ОтветитьWhat a surprise getting the history of RF-4E(S) covered by this channel. Thanks!
I used to hang out where the three RF-4E(S) were parked: underground aircraft shelter number 7 at Tel Nof AFB (I was ground crew).
At the time (1988), photos of RF-4s in IAF service (nor its service in the IAF) were never published, so imagine my enthusiasm discovering the "regular" RF-4Ea and then the 3 special RF-4E(S): 499, 498, 492.
Yeah, love that disco to go along with the times. Ick. Still, good rundown on the history of the extended Phantom development. You can do one on the Super Tomcat if you haven't already.
ОтветитьThe Israelis didn’t want U2 flying near their nuclear facilities because they were outright lying to JFK.
Ответитьmach 3.2?? holeeee crap!
ОтветитьWow, I'd never heard of this program!
ОтветитьI felt privileged to have worked on F4-E in Germany from for four years. After that I retrained into radio maintenance for my last fifteen years of active duty. Best part of my life.
