Changing your identity must seem like lying to yourself at first. Like the guy who said, “no thanks I’m not a smoker”! Who is he fooling?

I do have a recommendation for the meditation part though. The reason why it's so hard for westerns to meditate, and why we usually don't like doing so, is because we confuse meditation with focus. The way we meditate is actually a focus exercise more than anything.. meditation is the state of presence and being, it can be a permanent state too, it's actually very natural for us. Even driving, speaking, hearing the city traffic, running an errand, all of this can be meditation as long as we're fully present and concious. When we live in that state, nothing can unbalance us, we live in acceptance and awareness of existence. The book it's called "compassion" by Osho, but he has many books speaking about the subject too, very interesting perspective

You have a lot of worry in your eyes in this video. I'm not sure why. I would definitely look at the workout Paul Eckman or John Gottman on micro expressions or Vanessa Van Edwards

Start thinking about behaviour in terms if the identity that you want to embody rather than the goals you wanna achieve

Stick your identity you wanna be on a sticky note and keep it in the area u usually do your work in

Meditation, zazen meditation:- practice breath meditation

Practice buikding new habits, start small, track your progress
, progess is more important than perfection.

does the action to try and make yourself disciplined (the exercise to try make you say yes to things you want to say no to / not feeling motivated to do etc) have to be something you really dislike that you really don’t want to do or just something that you don’t want to do but it’s not something you really don’t want to do. For example, a person has a certain physical exercise they really dislike doing to improve self discipline or would it be enough to just take a cold shower for self discipline instead of the physical exercise they hate doing, and although it is unpleasant and they wouldn’t choose to have a cold shower normally, it’s not something that the person really dislikes doing compared to the physical exercise but they still dislike it?

I appreciate the intention behind the video. But at the same time, the pace at which the video runs, it's definitely putting off for a person who is trying to change. It would be helpful if you slow down

1. Focus on identity
ex) 담배 끊으려는 두 사람이 담배를 거절할때 A는 "No thanks, I'm trying to quit." 이라고 말하고, B는 "No thanks, Im not a smoker."

goals that I want to achieve < identity that I want to embody

2. Create Reminders

3. Embrace the suck

4. Target the fundamentals.

5. Practice Zazen
- try meditation (명상)

6. Build some habits

Simple Procedure for stress control, motivation, and wellbeing from affective neuroscience.
In sum:
1) The suppression of mind wandering (using mindfulness or other resting protocols) induces the decreased activity of the covert musculature or relaxation.
2) Relaxation elicits endogenous opioid release or is pleasurable.
3) The continuous experience with and expectation of imminent positive and novel moment to moment events (or meaningful behavior) during relaxation increases dopaminergic activity (perceived as a state of arousal but not pleasure) which stimulates increased ongoing opioid release, and opioid release will increase or ‘scale’ with the degree of dopamine release that scales in turn with the increased salience of reward. (or opioid-dopamine interactions)
4) This can be observed in natural environments and manipulated in self-control procedure, as outlined below.

Procedure: Continuous and periodic alternation between a resting protocol (e.g. mindfulness) and the pursuit of meaningful behavior will increase motivation and positive affect (arousal and pleasure), and by making meaningful ideation more emotionally salient, will crowd out thoughts leading to anxiety and depression, with the greater the meaning, the more intense the positive affect.

although I dont agree with everything, self disepline is important even if nothing comes from it to at times, if your goal is to be doormat seller then you might try as hard as you can and sort of not have any sucess in that field but you might find you build other skills, by having aquired more endurance or perserverance and maybe that helps you in other goals or even just intrests, so I guess something did come from it but not in the way you though ( but this is diffrent from person to person some people only have one goal and one thing they want to do and dose it), but I do think we sometimes have this romantic image of what a sort of sucess looks like, instead of what your actually good at you know?

remember discipline is a tool, its neither good nor bad. So ask yourself if you should really be doing whatever you're doing. Afterall you could have enough discipline to pour boiling water over your face, but should you really be doing that?
