First I ever heard of this game haha, or even the franchise. Had no idea they'd done a spinoff from Xcom. Looks fun though, and great video man. And you're right, Xcom is fun when I'm not being teamkilled!
ОтветитьDude you deserve so many more subs. Your videos are great
ОтветитьThis series is so underrated. It wasn't the most polished at all times, but man, the scope and passion was always on display.
Like, don't want to spoil too much, but both sequels had some BONKERS cool ideas. And really cool plot, too.
Nice to see more people covering UFO, I've only played Aftermath a bit but the series seems decent.
ОтветитьThis game is an unofficial sequel to the original xcom series. This video doesnt make it very clear but these devs had nothing to do with the orininal ufo defence game which is called xcom elsewhere. this trilogy of games is just some fans wanting their game to be in the same world so like how in the 80s film makers made crappy sequels to romeros zombie films. 10/10 games still tho. Good review not enough ppl play these titles.
Ответитьwrong, its not related to the original xcom series. inspired by yes.
ОтветитьCool video, I'd like to point out few things however. Firstly, in the settings you can choose your starting location to be in Europe, US or Asia which is important for the story missions since first one is in Area 51 and getting there from Europe or Asia is kinda tedious. Secondly, you can also set whenever the game should pause or play animation when new enemy appears or your unit gets hit.
Also about the dubbing, Czech one is even worse... but it adds to the charm somehow.
I had this game on a dvd, this game was legit my childhood alongside age of empires
Ответитьeveryone have heard of it
it was ufo reboot after gollop has run it into the ground
and then they announced it being realtime like apocalypse
nobody liked it
Awesome video!! Need to try this
ОтветитьThe soundtracks are also underrated. Relaxing and scary.
ОтветитьTried demo from cd I think, got a DVD withis and AS. Yesterday I installed this one from DVD that has two first games. Czech one is with some voice acting that would make you think they left asylum :D I never understood the plot line until yesterday/today. Even though I understood AS and AL very well. AS as base assumes you sold out to them ufons. The cinematic that follows in such a case is rather highly disturbing. AS essentially follows AM story line. Having to produce each piece of armor piece by piece qithout a queue is quite something. Interiors of ships remind of D1 dungeons a LOT. In a way those heavy armors with ability to carry and use the turrets was pretty interesting. In subsequent installments, you have the weak stuff. I found those cyb-or-gs very untasteful so to speak. Also amount of gear dropped. AS had those supply lines and factories, but it wasnt the same as sending a unit somewhere, all was accessible via that capsule that reminds of soviet Soyuz rocket crew compartment when it lands. AM maps had always stuff burning and other liefeless stuff, that in months of play on the outside would have 'disappeared'. A minor detail, on the moon units dont have special suits to breathe :P I tried the new thing that called itself eks com. They put it in the intro or somewhere that your character has electronics in their brains lol. Unistalled before tryout time ended. GAmeplay seemed much worse than these old pieces. Anyway, only in this first title of theirs you can shoot freely through friendlies. While AL is the most advanced in gfx, redoing AM and doing something instead of AS would have been imo more interesting. Later on taking on the growing excrement :) I missed variety of effective as well as overall means in AS, the ywere greatly reduced to bare minimum in AS. Reduction in shooting hitscan at range in AL was pretty good still. It feels like all threee titles were in an eliptical something great, they just could not properly do the mix of mechanics very well. AM feels very simplistic. AS start extra difficut. You had accessories in AS and AL. AM is greatly viewed fro mthe strategic mindset of the eastern bloc that is not that focused on tactical minutia. Operational and strategic much more. Considering I was back then a very young person, it brings 21 years ago much closer with all both good and bad. Looking back it feels like those trgic comedies. You cant bring back time, the feel of that time, the world that was then, at least where I was, much more innocent and straightforward. No idea about the future, then not really suspecting there wasnt much of any :P All the people then from the school ? I didnt meet most since. Some I did, some had high noses, pretending to be something they arent and werent. Im not that young anymore. all the nice, or not nice stories were all cool Except everybody got older. Ithink it is kind of sad. Especially if you compare then to today,. Society of then vs now seems like it was fuller of life. Id wish to see the same today, but oftentimes the form of things might have not changed much, the substance seems to have gone. Lik,e it is lifeless. I hope to not project myself here :P It feels like I want to be cherful, but not having too many reasons to be cheerful about :) I guess Im just tired. Anyway, cheers :)
ОтветитьUFO: Enemy Unknown was the first XCOM game. It was only sold as XCOM in North America, IIRC. So UFO: Enemy Unknown is not the first game in this series, it's the first game in the XCOM series. That said, Julian Gollop intended the UFO Trilogy to be a sort of reboot, before his company went bankrupt and he sold the rights to Altar Games. So the trilogy is a kind of parallel series or reimagining.
