This time I will be sightseeing in Naha City, Okinawa in one day.
I will introduce some of Naha's famous landmarks: Umikaji Terrace, Naminoue Beach, Shurijo Castle, and Kokusai-dori Street.

Shurijo Castle, also known as Shuri Castle, is a castle located in Naha, the capital city of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. The castle served as the center of politics, culture, and diplomacy for the Ryukyu Kingdom from the 15th to the 19th century.

The castle was originally built in the 14th century, but was destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout its history due to wars and fires. The current reconstruction was completed in 1992 after a devastating fire in 1971.

The architecture of Shurijo Castle is a blend of Chinese and Okinawan styles, reflecting the Ryukyu Kingdom's close cultural ties with China. The castle is also known for its distinctive red roof tiles and intricate wood carvings.

The main building of the castle, the Seiden or Main Hall, including the castle tower, also known as the North Palace, were destroyed in the fire.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, but the fire caused significant damage to the cultural heritage site, including national treasures and important cultural assets. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical issue related to the ongoing restoration work.

Shuri Castle is a symbol of Okinawan history and culture, and the loss of this important cultural site has deeply affected people in Okinawa and around the world. The Japanese government has pledged to rebuild the castle as closely as possible to its original form, and the restoration work is expected to take several years.
