The synthesizer music is annoying.
ОтветитьThis was truly ahead of its time...
ОтветитьI'm confused. Was it this episode that got cancelled midway through, or did this one never air at all?
ОтветитьThe only time I'll agree that cancel culture has gone too far is with what happend to this show 😢
ОтветитьI watched the first episode when it originally aired. It’s interesting to see what I might have watched had the show survived. Oh well…
ОтветитьI am so blessed to be living in a time of legal marijuana and unearthed progressive, absurdist, art comedy from the 1960's. This shit holds up crazy well.
ОтветитьDo you have the clean full version of Turn On theme tune anywhere?)
ОтветитьI see Elaan of Troyius escaped her unhappy marriage and decided to Turn on!
ОтветитьTo think I flew to New York to see this at the Paley Center for Media. (It wasn't the only reason I went, but it was one of them.)
Ответитьproto-sketchy of 1969 madness.
ОтветитьThis is not funny! Cool time cap😢
ОтветитьYeesh, did Theresa Graves leave Laugh-In for this show?
ОтветитьIt's like Sesame Street on LSD.
ОтветитьI heard that guy is still digging through his zippers today.
Ответитьgood to know that damn snyth was a recurring idea to be present during sketches
Ahead of its time, my ass
At least four quite pretty women were in this episode, France Nuyen,Thersa Graves,Maura McGivney,& Cecile Ozorio.
ОтветитьThis is my favorite tv show of all time and I'm so glad we can finally see it- I've watched the 2 episodes many times each. What a shame there are only 2 episodes and not 2000 episodes.
ОтветитьAAAAAHAHA I cant afford bootstraps!
Ответитьfuckers went to the tim and eric school of comedy before tim and eric were even born
ОтветитьThe best TV I have ever seen. I'd love to see the rest
ОтветитьOkay, only about half the jokes land, but major a+ for its absolute fearless irreverence and there is no way in hell this would ever work even today but what a world we could live in had this actually broken through and it would have changed the course of television. No joke.
Kovacs with a staff of hippies describes it perfectly.
I have waited so long for this
ОтветитьEpisode 2 def didn’t get better.
Weird and cringe.
This is YTP before YTP
ОтветитьPart of me kinda wishes it was more successful, unfortunately, it may have been aired too soon since viewers in 1969 weren't yet ready for this type of humor.
ОтветитьAn interesting experiment. Essentially LAUGH-IN with electronic music stingers and no audience. Not bad, but that audience is really needed.
ОтветитьWell, George, I have to say that "Turn On" is a Turn-OFF, which is what I am doing to it
after suffering through the entire first episode and the first two minutes and twenty seconds of this one.
As a piece of television history, it should be held up as an example of what to NOT put on the screen.
It kinda sucks the commercials were removed from these versions. It almost felt like the commercials were part of the show.
ОтветитьThe irreverence is gorgeous.
ОтветитьIt's so cool to see a big creative swing like this even if it didn't work out. The white void, the synths, the "cutting edge" editing - all very ahead of their time even if Laugh in had already mastered the rapid fire joke format. Feels like if Ernie Kovacs made a show with a writing staff full of hippies.
ОтветитьThe formate was done once before, Laugh-In. Both will be missed.
ОтветитьWow what a fantastic time capsule of 20th century media & culture this is! Admittedly I’m lacking the context of being alive at the time to understand every joke. Most of them are pretty mild for today. They do a good job illlustrating the hot topics and the modern American mindset for when this was made.
I get why many people find the backng track annoying but I think it’s charming in a chip tunes kind of way, about a decade before video game music was even a thing.
This might be the worst thing ive ever seen. Offensive just to be offensive in every way possible. Trying to be an edge lord when it comes to race and sex and pretending it's ok because of the cast. Lazy jokes, no cohesion, it really is like a much, much, much worse family guy.
ОтветитьGeorge how soon will the edited episode with clips from the unseen third episode be made availble? Any possibilty the entire third episode be posted?
ОтветитьIt's nice to see the end of this episode without feeling like it's going to self-destruct.
ОтветитьI like it. It's as irreverent as it is exhausting. And as someone born in 1990, it's interesting to see the overlap of social/political commentary from back in the 60s and now.
ОтветитьOver 50 years ago this man created short attention span media via technology. These are YT/FB shorts, Tik Toks, Vines, and many other little bits of meme culture long before they were ever created and mass distributed via the internet. To think, because some jaded station manager got butthurt this was lost and it took a half century to get to this stage again.
At least we get to see it and hopefully preserve it now, and wonder what could have been!
