I had to sit in tbe middle of a couple on a very long flight. Please don't do this do someone. Super annoying IMO.
ОтветитьThank you for that last one! Waiting for a wheelchair already takes quite a while sometimes, don't make it worse for those of us that actually need it, please!
ОтветитьLOL. The jetway Jesus miracle! They hobble on disabled and walk off cured! Only in America!
ОтветитьOne hack that's illegal is drinking your own liquor on board. I know, it doesn't sound illegal. It's not like you're stealing but it is illegal and punishable by a hefty fine.
The confusion arises because TSA allows the mini nip size bottles in your carry-on. But the airline is the only one legally allowed to serve you.
Hey! Not every handicap is a visible handicap! Both my husband and I have COPD which makes it very hard for us to negotiate large airports! That is when we request wheelchairs and we are both seniors so don't slam people without visible handicaps for using wheelchairs! Just Think you should give that a thought!
ОтветитьGoing along with faking being handicap to skip the line are those who claim their dogs are service animals. Which is how we got, IIRR the emotional support ostrich, which was the straw that broke the camels back as it were. Airlines have been cracking down on that abuse, but it's still happening there as well as in society overall.
ОтветитьGreat video but do not understate just how awful those couples are who buy the window and aisle so thry can be greedy and then demand a stranger's kindness! I hate these people. I travel solo and dont chose my seat. So many ask me to do this...they make me feel like its an obligation and also being black it feels extra problematic. I am tired of it! They dont even offer you anything. Next time im gonna ask for $50
ОтветитьMy personal hack. A safari vest and thin hiking pants plus a jacket (and sweater if cold). On my carry on only flights recently I did this ans suddenly had 14 pockets to fill! I mostly put snacks in them and put a grocery bag in my backpack to dump them into for the TSA belt. Best decision ever!
ОтветитьDo people really fly with full-size pillows? Those stupid neck pillows are bad enough, but a regular bed pillow? I never understood the reasoning behind that. Here's a travel hack; leave the pillow at home and use the ones provided for free at your destination!
ОтветитьThe real poor mans first class is extra legroom seats on budget airlines. If you pick a seat on the same row as another person its unlikely the middle seat will get taken
So you end with over double the legroom and no one sat next to you for 10-20 euros more
On that last one a biggie seems to be support animals. Airport staff often aren't trained enough to feel confident going to someone and saying: excuse me but that's not a service dog. Not even one in training. It would not be in training if it was that poorly behaved.
ОтветитьAs a disabled person who needs to request travel accommodations, it is such a hassle! It is so much work that I legit considered not requesting them for my upcoming flights... until I reminded myself how much MORE of a nightmare traveling is without them. I can't imagine going through all that if you didn't need it.
ОтветитьThe internal temps of a plane are usually fine but can vary. I've been on chilly flights (and nearly froze once on Norwegian Air) and sweltered on others. The worst was the time we had boarded, left the gate and for some reason the plane didn't move for an hour, on a hot summer day.
If I tried the multiple clothing layer hack, I'm positive that my plane would be sitting on hot tarmac for hours and the following flight would be one of the more toasty ones.
In March we flew economy and I had our seat preferences as window & isle hoping we’d have an empty seat between us but our flight was full. Lucky for me, the gal who ended up in the middle seat shared the same occupation with me and we had so much in common! Turned out to be a great flight. 😊
ОтветитьMan those boys are growing up fast 😄 Thank you for all of your very informative videos
Ответить"Us husky travelers." :)
ОтветитьAbout the couple who don't sit together...what happens if they don't want to sit together? On long flights, my husband prefers the aisle (he needs to use the bathroom frequently), while I sleep best in a window seat. I don't care if a stranger sits between us. If we spend two weeks together, what is 6-7 hours of one seat of separation?
ОтветитьDishonest travelers are not just limited to airports. Back in the 1970s, when me and my siblings were children, our family went on summer road trips. In order to save money at a drive-up admission kiosk to a park or attraction, our mother would tell our sister (the youngest and smallest sibling) in the backseat of the car, to lie on the floor and cover herself with a blanket to avoid being seen by the attendant. Thus, paying admission for two children instead of three!

ОтветитьI once did skip-lagging for a work trip. I did not plan the situation, so I just explained the situation to the booking agent, and they checked my bag just for the first leg of the trip. After sorting out the stuff in the first place, I flew to the final destination and later flew back with the original tickets without problem. Of course, this happened many years ago, and the flights were international from Europe, so maybe not the same thing in the US.
ОтветитьMy Advice: Never go to a place blind. Learn about the culture, food,Sportd, museums and things to do. Make reservations which can always be cancelled. You have a limited time in each place do not spent it getting mediocre food and learning your way around.
ОтветитьYears ago, when recovering from a serious cancer OP and was very weak, I requested wheelchair assistance. You couldn't SEE my `"handicap", but it was there. Fortunately no-one questioned/doubted me if I actually needed the extra care
ОтветитьThese feel like breaking the airline rules/law rather than life hacks.
ОтветитьPlease dont take this the wrong way but having just come from a video from a few years ago it stuck with me how great you look. Great video and keep up the good work!
ОтветитьMy Wife doesn’t need a wheelchair but she has two bad knees waiting for replacement and the distances required to walk in airports are extremely difficult for her. We ask for mobility service but we make it clear that she can walk onto and off the aircraft and other short distances and the airlines understand and have a category for that. Accompanying her I usually get to bypass the lines and ride the movers with her and I don’t ever pretend to be disabled myself but I have to admit that my age is catching up with me and it makes things a lot easier.
ОтветитьAs someone who has flown with a sprained ankle and needed a wheelchair - yes, you are the first one through security and on the plane. but you are also the LAST person off the plane. why would you willingly spend more time on a plane? plus, you are certainly not taking your wheeled carry on with you. It's so much more of a hassle, on top of being morally bankrupt.
ОтветитьI thought pillows had to fit inside a bag. Can I bring a small pillow in addition to a carry-on and a personal item? I need a pillow behind my back to be comfortable in the airline seat.
ОтветитьI was boarding a flight last year and there was a line of at least 30 wheelchairs just sitting there. Right before boarding a ton of people walked perfectly up to them and they all got to load before everyone else. Over half didn't even get a wheelchair after landing but the airline actually made them wait until everyone else got off the plane before allowing them to get off so that was unexpected and made a number of people mad.
ОтветитьI’ll never understand why people need to bring so much crap with them that they need to try to scam the system to be able to take it for less money in the first place… I never take anything that doesn’t fit in my carry-on.
List of what I take:
Top: 2 button-up (sleeve length depends on the weather), 1 wife beater, 1 t-shirt, a thick jacket if it’s gonna be cold.
Bottom: 2 pairs of drawers, 1 pair of jeans and 2 shorts in warm weather or 2 pairs of jeans in cooler weather. Pair of socks.
Shoes: 1 good pair of shoes. Shoes go on my feet not my bag unless it’s warm, then shoes go in my bag and flip-flops go on my feet.
Hat: I take a “fishing/outdoor” hat if it’s gonna be warm.
I buy literally everything else at my destination like hygiene products for example.
What I wear: a t-shirt, light jacket if needed, baseball cap, sunglasses, jeans/shorts depending on weather, drawers, flip flops or the only pair of shoes I’ll bring, socks if I need them, my wallet and phone.
Learned all of this from none other than Rick Steves years ago.
Ah, the magic wheelchairs
ОтветитьAs a petite person, I always book that middle seat. And then I grab both hand rest! How’s that for cozy?😂😂
ОтветитьAnd wearing all that extra clothing will tag you when you go through the scanner at least in the United States. I remember a lot of people getting full on patdowns and even missing their flight because of it!
ОтветитьGrowing up is realizing that sometimes the chillest way to travel is to get your ticket, pack efficiently, show up, and take your flight like normal. And don't make the service workers' lives harder than it already is.
Though I'll say i have seen some people mention skip lagging on trains where city-city deals might be better and you just hop off at your intermediate stop. Though I've mostly heard this from some UK people where the ticketing is sometimes very chaotic.
People putting fake "service animal" vests on their pets.
ОтветитьMy least favorite hack is when people call their pets, support animals. There are trained service animals and the rest are pets.
ОтветитьThe reason that wheelchair users like me go to the front of the line is that we require extra screening, including a complete pat down by a TSA agent of the same gender (under the boobs, inside of the thighs, etc.). This takes a while. Then they have to do a complete pat down on the wheelchair. Then they have to swab our hands to check for explosives. So we really don't get through the line that much faster.
ОтветитьWhen I was going to Greece in 2023 and had a nightmare of a transition through Paris that required me going out of security, my carry-on was deemed too heavy in Paris when I tried to go back through Paris (typically carry-ons don't get weighed in Canada), and I couldn't check the carry-on in (despite being willing to) and when I asked where the nearest garbage can was to throw out a kg of stuff, the Air France staff actually told me to just throw on some of my extra clothes that I had in my carry-on and go through.
ОтветитьRecently on Southwest, my mom and I sat in the last row of the plane at window and aisle. Increased our odds of an empty middle by picking a "bad seat". Got lucky and it worked on both legs of the trip.
ОтветитьThese are horrible hacks.
ОтветитьMy husband and I do the window and aisle seat situation but we personally don’t care who sits in the middle, I like my aisle seat and I’ll see my husband at the destination 😂
ОтветитьYikes, faking a disability is despicable. If you are doing this, not only are you taking resources away from people with legitimate disabilities, but you are also causing people with legitimate disabilities to have to face more questions and doubt and barriers to get the support they need. Disgusting.
ОтветитьI haven't in a while, but when I was traveling with a lap infant, my husband and I would book an aisle and a window hoping to have a bit of extra space. But if we did end up with someone in the middle of us, we'd just offer them the aisle or window, their choice, so they wouldn't be stuck between us. That way they get a slightly better seat than they were expecting, even if they are sitting near a baby.
ОтветитьI tried Window and Aisle hack... It didnt work hahahah😢
ОтветитьNo word of a lie…I conttined watching this and the ad thst popped up and stared was for “the best travel hack” (for global internet) 😅
ОтветитьIf you have a hidden disability wear a sunflower lanyard. TSA cares they will bring someone to help speed you through without pulling people to push you to the gate.
My disability is hidden so don't judge people who look able getting services.
Hey, not trying to start my own channel but would be happy to share resources as a disabled traveler video.
I saw on a travel show a young woman who requested a wheelchair because she was feeling unwell. The airline staff informed her that she would need to get a medical certificate stating she was fit to travel. Since it was the weekend, they had to race around to two hospitals to find a doctor who could write the certificate, before their plane took off.
ОтветитьI traveled from Dubai to Phoenix via Zurich and San Francisco right after knee surgery and required a wheelchair for the trip. It was truly miserable. I don’t recommend it unless there’s no alternative.
Depending on the airport, you’re often treated like a burden by the staff (looking at you, SFO) and waste more time than self-managing with a cane or crutches.
If you’re doing it just because you think you’ll get some sort of unearned benefit, you’re fooling yourself. Oh, and a scumbag, as well.
Calling you " Middle Mark" from now on!😅
