It's a massive loss to the Ummah, may Allah forgive all our teachers, show them mercy, keep them protected and allow us to benefit from them. May Allah grant those that have passed away the highest ranks in jannahtul firdaus. Ameen

“Shariah demands that Allah is remembered at all times and not only remembered, but embedded in the heart.” (Hadhrat Shaykh Yusuf Motala)
Many a times, the sheer contribution of a person in the great legacy they leave behind only becomes evident to the masses only after their passing, and with Hadhrat Shaykh Yusuf Motala Sahib, this too was no exception.
His humble origins of being born in the village of Nani Noroli in Ghujrat, India, could have almost disguised in concealing the outstanding contribution he would go on to make in revolutionising the western hemisphere in pioneering the first Islamic seminary of its kind, which would go on to produce thousands of graduates, and the great impact he would go on to have across countries and continents in the establishment of Islamic institutes and organisations.
His unique endurance and fortitude in his commitment to establish the first Muslim seminary, in the absence of any precedent was no simple task. Faced in unknown territory, and the lack of support from the Muslim community as well as the financial constraints which weighed down heavily, would have rendered it an almost unattainable dream, but the seed of love when it is implanted knows no restriction or restraint, in his love and devotion to his Shaykh.
This compelled him to follow and act on his instruction of the need for an Islamic educational establishment for the memorisation of the Quran and the Alimiyyah course, and he persevered with the foresight and vision of his Shaykh. The love he had for his Shaykh was deeply profound. His first encounter with his Shaykh, Zakariya Khadalwi was at Surat train station, when he was on route to Hajj and had stopped briefly for 15 minutes, but this was enough time to leave a lasting impression and it was as a result of this encounter that Shaykh Yusuf Motala Sahib decided to finish his last two years of his Alimiyyah course in Saharanpur. He studied under the love and compassion of his Shaykh and a close bond and connection developed.
His efforts proved fruitful and in 1973, the foundations of the first Islamic seminary in the western world was laid down. He was the founder of Darul Ulum Al-Arabiyyah Al-Islamiyyah in Holcombe, Bury, popularly now known as ‘Darul Ulum Bury’. He then went on to establish many other institutes and was the founder and patron of many other organisations in the UK and abroad.
75% of the English-speaking Scholars are direct or indirect graduates from his institutes. Many students of Hadhrat Shaykh Yusuf Sahib have established seminaries and have gone on to work in a range of fields including Medicine, Accountancy, Chaplaincy, Psychology, Philosophy, Pharmacy, Optometry and many other fields. Along with its other sister institutes also founded by Hadhrat Shaykh Yusuf Sahib, they have gone on to produce thousands of graduates who have gone on to set up their own Islamic institutes and organisations.
His distinct humility left deep impressions on all those who came into contact with him. His ability to penetrate a person’s heart with the enduring love for the Din remains unparalleled in that he would not only have the power to transform them into devout learned people committed to their faith, but would also instil the love of continuing on his work, which can be seen in the ripple effect in the lives of his students who he has left to continue his legacy; who have also gone on to establish Madrasahs and other institutes of learning in this country and in other parts of the world.
What stands out is not his rhetoric in commanding the masses, for he was rather a private person who would avoid large crowds and gatherings of prestige, but his simplistic humble lifestyle in which every Sunnah of the Prophet was followed so meticulously that it left people awestruck at the sheer lengths he would go to in doing so.
May Allah reward him with Firdous al A'la. Ameen.

Subhān-Allāh, when I think of Hadhrat Yūsuf Motāla رحمة الله عليه, I am amazed at his achievements and his contributions to society. He was a true spiritual legend of our time. The madāris we have, the many ulamā in the UK and across the world who have been educated due to Hadhrat Yūsuf Motāla's efforts (and many of these ulamā are spiritual giants in their own right and are making tremendous contributions to society). Thoudands of Muslims owe it to him. The ease we have in the UK especially when it comes to practising our religion and the establishment of Islamic institutes - is due to him. He made literary contributions as well and he left no stone unturned. He was really a miracle of our times and a true spiritual reformer. If we want to see an example of somebody who Allāh Ta'ālā gave qubūliyyah and qābiliyyah to and the barakah that came with that, then all we need to do is look to his life and works. May Allāh Ta'ālā give us the ability to follow in the footsteps of spiritual legends like this. May Allāh Ta'ālā fill his grave with light and grant him a great great award for all he has done. Āmīn.

when Hazrat maulana yusuf motala saab would do bayaan's
he would always talk about the holy prophet Muhammad صل الله عليه وسلم
and he would always talk
about his teacher hazrat shaykh Maulana Muhammad Zakariyyah.
this was because of the love that he had for the Holy prophet Muhammad صل الله عليه وسلم
and also because of the strong connection and bond that he had with his teacher.
may Allah fill Hazrat Maulana Yusuf's motala's grave with noor
and May Allah grant Hazrat shaykh Maulana Yusuf Motala Jannah tul Firdous.
Ameen
