The session saw mixed performance, with small-cap and mid-cap stocks witnessing significant volatility. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices ended flat, up 0.08% and 0.05%, respectively. Financial, FMCG, metal, and banking sectors faced selling pressure, dragging the indices lower. Nifty Financial Services fell 0.42%, Nifty FMCG dropped 0.31%, Nifty Metal declined 0.28%, and Nifty Bank was down 0.22%. In contrast, pharma, IT, healthcare, and oil & gas sectors saw buying interest, with Nifty Pharma gaining 0.75%, Nifty IT up 0.62%, Nifty Healthcare rising 0.58%, and Nifty Oil & Gas advancing 0.44%. In the Sensex, 16 of 30 stocks rose, while 14 fell, with Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, and Reliance Industries among top gainers. In the Nifty 50, 28 stocks advanced, and 22 declined. Analysts attribute the subdued performance to profit booking after a recent rally, mixed global cues, and caution ahead of upcoming macroeconomic data releases.
