Meh. The number one motivator for all crime is getting away with it meaning "knowledge of law enforcement and/or law enforcement officials" and the certainty in knowing that either

A: they can do nothing about YOU (I would agree with that aspect) but more importantly

B: Law enforcement had been desensitized to crime and frankly didn't care all that much

"Profile the context of the Law Enforcer thus therefore profile crime itself." It is interesting in his time that he and the FBI could have access to computers and data bases and therefore (set, theory) but of course sadly that is not presented here which makes one wonder given the explosion in crime globally but certainly in the USA how is such a condition even possible given how much is now known about everyone and everything?

The answer seems simple to me anyways: "as relates to serial killers you're just not thinking big enough" and perhaps the reason for this amazing individual's suddenly attack of a near certain perfect but not quite life ending headache.

They put their own mental health on the line to try to serve humanity by understanding the abhorrent behavior of killers. Then they go home & have to live with those sights, smells, thoughts & the voices of the killers replaying in their minds., Not to mention having to hear things like the toolbox killers recordings of women being tortured being replayed in their minds over & over. They sacrifice so much of themselves for the good of society. They're heroes!

Since the original interviews, many violent offenders (whether serial killers or not) have been shown to have all, some, or even none of the original "homicidal triad" traits. Look to work by researchers like Dr. Robert Hare and Dr. Adrian Raine (two of the most respected scientists in the field of Psychopathology, violence, and antisocial personality disorder) to find that there are many other precursers both biological - genetics, diet, etc. and societal - parenting, social stigmas, etc. that influence the growth and development of people who become serial killers and habitually violent people.

I read his book by the same name. Fascinating. As a result I found myself working toward a formal education in the psychopathology and sociopathic behavior arena. People have to remember that "we" are animals, if you will, and as with every other species on earth there will be bad apples. The whole of the topic does indeed point to specific contributors, experiences, and the ability to discern the appropriate action and response. So again it comes down to nature / nurture. In my humble opinion, it's both.

Whoa!! I've read 5 of his books one of which is called "Journey Into Darkness." I do believe i spiraled into darkness permanently upon reading about the very dark world most of us never care to see with all of the horror associated. He's a brilliant mind and man who sacrificed much of his own life and mental well being to track the worst of humanity.

ATTENTION SHEEP: Profilers are charlatans. They are book authors and interview givers who get off on hearing the exploits of serial killers. Just read the comment sectoin on this very video. It's all thank god for profilers and I read all their books and I once met blah blah blah and he was so fascinating. You know what you never hear about? All the killer their actual skills caught. Their books are about the already caught guys they interviewed and the minutia of the tools they share with law enforcement. Try googling the profiles that these "experts" came up with for serial killers on the loose. You'll be shocked at what you find.
