Lake Rotoiti has some great short walking tracks starting from Kerr Bay - as well as longer options that will take you to the St Arnaud Range ridgeline or around the entire perimeter of the lake.
The shortest, the Bellbird Walk, is wheelchair accessible. The other two short walks - the Honeydew and Loop tracks are well formed and maintained and make for easy walking.
These walks provide a rich experience of NZ beech forest thanks, in no small part, to Rotoiti Nature Recovery Project.
When we visited in April 2022 the forest was alive with bird song and also boasted an impressive array of fungi. Take your time as you walk these tracks and there are all sorts of wonders to be discovered.
