After finally finishing this video, I can say I respect it. I think probably my personal number 1 has to be Guilty Gear X2 Reloaded or MVC2 though. I cannot comment on anything newer than 2013, as once my daughter was born I became a filthy casual. I loved DBZF but I never played it enough to get properly into it, due to Dad status.

Edit: Smash Ultimate is an exception as I play it with both my daughters and have nothing but fun with it, but that is very different from a competitive fighter. It would defo be top 5 somewhere.

KI 2013 > MK9 but both games deserve higher than 8. Granted they were up against some legacy competition.

Mk 2 over Mk3 is crazy

Granblue Vs Rising is probably my favorite fighting game right now until Fatal Fury. Granblue is so so so good. I love it.

Melee should be in every top 10 goat fighting game list. Hands down, that game and community has kept their game alive hype and still relevant since 2001. Not sure if there is another game as old or older that's as big or bigger. If we are talking franchise, then obviously there's a bunch.

Soul Calibur 2 was the first 3D fighter that I got super good at and Tekken 5 was the one that got me competitive in arcades (London, Trocodero). MVC2 I always liked and got super good at with friends. Street Fighter 4 I was so into that I was actually ranked 5th as Bison for a very short stint Online on 360. I haven't really played anything newer past KI 2013 as that was when my first daughter was born in 2014. Honestly SF4 deserves to be higher than 2 and and Tekken 5 losing to 3 is just wrong.... To me at least.

I love Tekken 3 and 5 are amazing and I played the hell out of both of them, but Tekken 5 is just better.

Needs more Simmons.

I have only played Soul Calibur 6 and I really enjoy it, so I can see Soul Calibur at top 3 even though I haven't played it... yet.

My favorite fighting games would be:

10. Tekken 3
People might hate me for this, but its controls, and maybe the graphics haven't held up the best. And, Ogre is cheap. Still, it's solid all around. I have a really great story behind this game too.
9. Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-I &^&%^&^%$^$#%ing hate Abyss; but with that said, this game is amazing. Great roster, great music, great stages, and great gameplay. Plus, its the game that everyone wanted released on modern consoles, and I cannot deny that impact. 
8. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 
-It's an iconic game on the PS2. The opening cutscene, roster, stages, gameplay, modes, and unlockables are legendary. The only things maybe holding this game back is completing it, and sadly the music.
7. Marvel vs. Capcom
-Despite it being 2 vs 2 and whatever, it was really fun, the assist system was tight, the character roster, although not as big as 2's, was still really good, the music was amazing, the stages were good, and the controls were tight. Plus, Onslaught is a better interesting villain than OC Abyss.
6. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
-It has Deadpool and Phoenix Wright. And that was a huge reason why.
5. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
-This game also had base Persona 4 Arena. All of the characters are from Persona 3 & 4, the stages were bonkers, the music had some great original songs and remixes, and the combat was snappy. How the Personas were able to fight, and how the characters used their weapons were amazing too. Maybe the story mode was trash after a while, but this game is still really amazing, and has a lot of content.  
4. Dragon Ball: Sparking: Zero! 
It was a really long time since the BT games came out, and after the traditional arena fighting games maybe since RB2. I was hyped when this was announced, and when the news came that even Super characters made it. It's too bad some GT and OG characters were left out, and the story only focused from Z up to Super, with no mention of the movies et al, and GT and OG DB. Still, the roster was insane, the stages were cool, some of the music even took from the anime, and it looks really good. Too bad some characters are somewhat gamebreaking, but all and all, Sparking! Zero is fantastic! 
3. Tekken 8 
This is only because it's a culmination of hype and promise of the end of this Mishima era or so. The characters are good, EVEN IF EDDY GOT SIDELINED TO DLC AGAIN!, the stages are amazing, the music is incredible, and the controls are tight. I even loved the story. I don't remember any huge complaints, except for maybe the Season Pass thing. From someone who started from 3, this game is hype. T6 and TTT2 are really amazing too.  
2. Marvel Super Heroes
Only really because of Thanos and the Infinity Gems. That is peak storytelling. ... (And maybe the comedian, if he was a part of this game.)
1. Mortal Kombat 2011 
The story is amazing, the cast is superb, even if some are clearly broken, the new school feel of older stages and music was fantastic, and the combat was engaging. Sure, it's rough to look at now, but Mortal Kombat 2011 is regarded as a rebirth of the series for a reason. 

Also, Sakurai clearly stated the Smash series isn't a fighting game series in an interview, even though I love the series to death. Melee and Smash Ultimate are clearly the best of all of them. 
 
I know there's a lot of games I left out, but it was tough for me. KI2013, KOF98 AND 02 UM, KOFXV, Soul Calibur 2 GC Edition, SFII, Ultra SFIV, SFIII 3rd Strike, SFA2/3, SF6, SamSho 4/ the recent one I haven't played, MKX, MK11, MK1, DBFZ, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and maybe some others that I haven't really played, like the BlazBlue and GG series. Heck, can't wait for May or whatever when the CFC2 comes out, so I can properly play Power Stone 2 and CVS2. And City of the Wolves looks fantastic!

Vf1 play was still fun. Sf2 being on vs vf1 not is pretty insane. Yes sf1 exists but given how few people played or even know about it even today, it basically doesn't exist. Vf1 was a popular, flagship launch title. Sf2 was just sega throwing shit at a wall still in the 90s that got lucky. Both are still good to play today.
