This is a great interview, I love wildlife gardening and hiking in the mountains. Would love to create an alpine area, but I'm on clayey loam soil that's very rich. Somebody gave me a Pasque flower last spring, I had no idea what to do with it, or where to plant it, it eventually died in the pot as I forgot about it.
It is amazing what appears in the grass, this year Red Clover, White Clover, Buttercups, Hawkweed, Dandelion, Cuckoo flower, various ragworts, daisies, plaintains, and Germander Speedwell have appeared amongst others. I don't know why, but every inch of the garden is covered in Speedwell, after I let the grass grow for a few weeks, it's a blue carpet, it's in the cracks in the pavement and anywhere it can grow.
What a lovely video - thank you both! Very informative.
ОтветитьSuch a beautiful natural garden.
Ответить👍🏻. What a cracking garden 🪴 this is. 😊
ОтветитьA garden to aspire too, especially love how the pond has developed over time, I’ve dreamt of doing this. I too wish for newts, but this seems to be an area for frogs, and likewise I wouldn’t bring any in, it’s down to nature whether they arrive. Great interview I could watch this again, love to hear like minded people discussing nature, wildlife gardening.
ОтветитьAbsolutely inspirational and unassuming man. I've seen the video that David made when building a pond for his friend but now I'll just have to binge on his other videos. Thanks for bringing this to us Joel, made my daily commute
into Central London more bearable.
What a lovely man and a wonderful garden and not a weed in sight!!! Unlike my garden! I've subscribed to David's channel of course. Thank you for bringing him to our attention. Hope you had a great holiday. We spent last week in Porthcawl. Some fab places to visit round there. Found a patch of pyramidal and bee orchids. They are on WASTE land so there are plans to build 900 houses on the site. When will it ever stop? Our gardens are so important.
ОтветитьIf everyone only had two children, there wouldn't be a problem xx
ОтветитьAgree Joel, David is a great wildlife advocate. A great garden that shows your garden doesn’t have to be out of control to introduce and support wildlife. The planting is excellent and great habitats. I’m very envious of his orchids. What a joy to watch, thank you.
ОтветитьExcellent video, that's an awesome natural looking pond. I've subscribed to his channel.
ОтветитьThe world needs more people like David what a great video & a lovely caring man. Great vid Joel I'll defo be subscribing to his channel especially to see his wonderful garden change thru the seasons. Keep up the great work mate 👍
ОтветитьSuper interesting interview and what an amazing nature garden. Hopefully it will inspire many more of us to create a wild life garden 🐝
ОтветитьWhat a treat listening to this conversation was! Thank you.
ОтветитьSo much to learn with this kind of person and experience… another great video Joel ! modeling and thinking our gardens to Attract the wildlife and keep it safe is just what we should all do
ОтветитьWow... !!! My best friend, Loved this video. Looking forward to see more. Awesome... Full watched.
ОтветитьReally interesting hearing you two natter away - thankyou both for the content. At one point you talk of 'past' flowers??? Did I hear that right?
ОтветитьBeen waiting to get time to watch this in one proper go, and so worth. What a superb example of a proper gentleman David is. What a superb garden. So much work over the years has paid off. Everything he said was a real listen. Same as with your videos. Before I watched your 3 part pond making videos I wasn’t aware of you mate. The previous year I’d made an effort planting bee friendly plants and I’d dig my first fish pond and rockery waterfall. But since that 3 part series of yours, I’ve followed your channel intently ( as you know, ha ha) ,I’ve made my own wildflower pond, fitted bird feeders, made log piles , planted so many plants I’ve never heard of before after your recommendations, made a wildflower garden in a section of my lawn, thought about how and how often I cut my grass, and have done my best to persuade people I know to do the same . My in-laws have recently moved down to where we live and my father in law seen my wildlife pond and loves it . So I’ll be helping him create that soon once I’ve fitted his new heating system and bathroom 😁
I feel proud now listening to people like yourself and David that are so passionate on this subject and that I am actually part of this community now doing my small bit, hoping that lots more people do the same with their gardens to some way counteract all the wild land we’re sadly losing to government house building schemes and changes in farming etc .
Safe to say I will be subscribing to David’s channel right after I send this message 😊
Great video
3rd time watching this Joel. I’m trying to get more ideas of David’s fascinating garden.
ОтветитьThat was brilliant! What an amazing inspiration for the rest of us David. Thanks Joel
ОтветитьAmazing garden! Would love to see some sort of tutorial on how to add a stream to an existing wildlife pond
ОтветитьThis is possibly the best gardening video I have ever seen - thank you so much. 2 lovely souls doing lovely work for the lovely world we live in 💚
ОтветитьThis lovely man is a national treasure! What an awesome interview, thank you!
ОтветитьHow nice. I hope I can do the same in my retirement years. Thank you!
ОтветитьGreat video, keep doing what your doing 😊
ОтветитьThe natural antidote for the modern weed killer and astroturf disease.
Ответить❤
Ответитьwow, beautiful garden!
ОтветитьNew to the channel love the content! We should all do things to support wildlife ❤ can't beat a pond!
ОтветитьTime travel across the ocean. A beautiful snapshot of a wild gardening dream meets reality. Ponds building in a very old water culture/garden feature. It would be interesting to see the way this was done before plastic pond-liners. Locally(Northern Ontario Canada) My requests to pause mowing of Monarch Butterflies milkweed roadside nesting areas has gone unheard as have the orchid areas. Other residents along with myself have rescued some after mowing and trying to grow milkweed areas away from roadsides. The Story of the Monarch is one of the back stories of my life. From labeling and colouring diagrams of them in grade school to following the story as an adult of tracking and discovery of their wintering grounds in Central Mexico. It was a joy to listen to David's back story.
ОтветитьJoel, my Mum has just died and I also feel so incredibly lucky to have had an upbringing that was full of my Mum's love of wildlife, animals, gardens and the Countryside. Like you, I find it surprising, and it's so sad for other people that they don't have that knowledge passed down.
Lovely video, I wish this man lived on my street 😊
What a wonderful treasure the man and garden. I'm sure his grandchildren will remember fondly and think of him in future decades. Well done David and Audrey.
ОтветитьThank you. I enjoyed listening, learning and reflecting. Appreciated. Inspires me to look up ‘Out Of Town’ with Jack Hargreaves. Going to do that next. ❤
ОтветитьIf you details about garden pl showing mostly plants is better your both own pics ?
ОтветитьBest viewing I’ve seen in years!
ОтветитьYou can tell a person who is enthusiastic about their subject and its all done from personal experience and not formal education. WHat an absolute gem that is. I'm just in the throws of convierting my old veg patch into a wildlife garden, not as big as Davids but hopefully I can get it to look some where near as good.
Ответитьwhat a lovely garden so much wildlife has moved in
ОтветитьHi Joel, I really enjoyed this video and will be subscribing to David’s channel as it was lovely listening to such a down to earth and caring man, wish David was my neighbour !
ОтветитьAn amazing garden created by an amazing man.
ОтветитьLovely conversation. So envious of the pond.
All the starlings are over here in the US! I get so many in my yard now just north of Boston. They are beautiful, but not native here and they are such a thuggish gang as they always come as a huge flock of at least 25.
Hi Joel - really enjoyed this. However be aware that the sycamore supports a fraction of the insects and ecosystems of native trees, its seeding is hugely successful and it soon dominates woods creating a dark canopy that negatively affects what grows below.
Ответить♥️You're inspiring a lot of people to do more Wildlife Gardens preserving and taking care of nature💚💚💚 thank you 👍👍
ОтветитьYou should go back to these gardens and record all the wildlife you can spot during summer!!!
ОтветитьJust L❤OVED this garden !!!😍😍😍😍
ОтветитьAmazing garden, fascinating interview 👍
ОтветитьStill on catch up Joel, i have subd to David. What a lovely genuine Gentleman, great vlog, like you, he certainly knows his stuff, a brilliant watch ty for sharing 🎉
ОтветитьThis is a credit to David and his wife, pond 🐸envy, what a fabulous garden. On behalf of all the wonderful wildlife, thankyou for sharing your ⭐️star hidden oasis with us🐾🦔🐦🐸🦎🐌🦋🐛🐜🐝🪲🐞🦗🕷🪳🕸🦟🪰🪱
Ответить48 minutes in and joel just said he shouldnt have had kids to save the planet 😢 what a clown
