Your line-out comparison to the Fractal Audio FM3 is striking.: This NUX Mighty Lite has an impressive modeling engine! Seven years ago, I bought a Boss Katana-Mini for similar purposes. (To carry on a bike + public transit into the office, for after-work jam sessions, back when people worked in offices.) Although that Katana Mini has since been upgraded a slight bit, this is exponentially more amp + FX + IR's.
ОтветитьI love my NUX Mighty Air. Easy to carry around, and at home I connect it to my Kustom combo with a 12" speaker to get the best from both worlds.
Ответитьany recommendations for nylon string/classical guitars?
ОтветитьRecently got a Fender Deluxe ToneMaster (solid state) because it's 23 lbs, and fits a lot of situations. With my ES-175 I get a great jazz tone with no fuss. With a PRS solid body and some pedals it covered all the bases I needed in a classic rock cover band. It does the job so well in so many situations, no wonder the Deluxe has been around for decades. Simple and easy.
ОтветитьI have a number of small inexpensive solid state amps with 5" or 6.5" speakers. All of them I modified to alter the EQ response of the pre-amp, and on most of them I disabled any overdrive they had - because those usually sound bad. I use them as small FRFR-like amps with a variety of pedals (including IR loader) in front. Its amazing how good they sound. On some, the small speakers were not so great, and they were replaced with better sounding ones. On all of them I rewired the headphone jack to be an external speaker connection that also disables the internal speaker. They sound great plugged into a ported enclosure with a nice 8" or 10" speaker. None are more than about 10 watts, so they're not loud, but they're loud enough for me.
I also have a NUX 'Amp Academy' modeling pedal. Its not bad. Its not great, but it was only $150 used. I downloaded the current firmware and the amp selection is decent, but not extensive. It comes with a bunch of good IRs, and user loadable spots for other IRs. Not in the same league as Fractal, but not bad. I bought a small powered monitor to plug it into, and it gets sounds and tones I can't get with other setups. Quite usable - IF I was still doing live gigs...
Just ordered one! I have a Blackstar Fly that I love but it's pretty much a two trick pony.. Looking forward to messing with the app :)
ОтветитьBut can it Djent? :)
ОтветитьI'm still using my original Roland MicroCube - 2W with a 5" speaker - and I'll be using it for a small venue next week; my mother's wireless mic into the main input - and my thinline archtop through my Tank-G into the aux-in. When I'm playing by myself though - I mainly use the fender and vox voices, as I find the JC clean voice to be too 'thin'. For bigger venues - I've got an Orange Crush combo that has a lovely sound. Recently I collected a Joyo bass practice amp (MA10-B) and while the guitar input is either pathetic - or broken (very, very low output) - the aux-in works fine with the Tank-G and the Tank-Mini, as a little 10W p.a.
Oh - and after listening more carefully... I now have a much nicer, warm sound for jazz on my Tank-G... for a P90; now to try and find an equivalent on my strat and my Godin 'look-alike'....
Money can really buy any content creator these days 😭
Ответитьwhoaaa! I think I have the MK 1 which I bought many years ago and I had no idea how good or bad it was... actually I bought it because it was cheaper... then I could compare this Nux amp with some similar amps from other brands but all the others sounded not good like boxy kinda flat... nowadays I am taking this Nux mini amp with me when going out on vacays and it's really enjoyable... btw, I've never used an app... I have different guitar amps from 5 watts to 60 watts, analog an digital, but in the end I always manage to sound like the same... kinda my sound. I will try to check the app... I also built an 8" guitar speaker box with a Valeton TAR-20G mini amp, also cheap that sound really sweet! I've been really lucky on the matter.
ОтветитьToo much talking, not enough playing.......
ОтветитьAngry Comment! Angry Comment!
ОтветитьVery useful. Thanks Jens
Ответитьmodern pick-nose
ОтветитьIt looks alot like a Blackstar Fly with obvious extras. Maybe there's a company connection
ОтветитьI have one. Yeah, really cool. But I disagree about the speaker. Its excellent and sounds like a big rig far away to me
ОтветитьHello Jens.
I’d love to get the chord melody of Darn that dream you play in this video. Would it be possible to have it?
For a while, I used the Blackstar Fly 3 with the stereo extension cab for practice and living room sessions - it's much like the NU>X. Folks were very surprised when they saw where the sound was coming from. I've since moved to a Spark 40 and the options are far more dramatic. For anything larger, I still have my Tweed 59 Twin with the Power Soaks for level balance. My 1983 Yamaha SG800S loves both setups.
ОтветитьI wonder if you've seen the Yamaha THR5 amps - they are very petite and I would say the speakers sound pretty good.
Ответитьwish you visit China music expo in Shanghai, or Guangzhou.
ОтветитьSold my epiphone es339! Didn't like the neck!!!
ОтветитьI use blackstar acoustic fly! It sounds good!!!
ОтветитьI'd recommend a Spark Mini or Spark Go
ОтветитьI'm using Yamaha THR10II for same tasks(it was loud enough for some chamber jams) - it works perfect too but cost a bit more.
But this Nux looks really good as portable amp for home jams. The only thing I have found is that these amps produce a slightly "viscous response" compared to regular solid state amps(or maybe tubes too, I didn't play on tube amps for last 4-5 years).
It's not really the sound, but the feel when you play with them. Usual solid state amp feels kind of "faster" and more "direct" when you playing.
I've got the Mighty Air, a wireless version. Gotta try out your settings! 🎶
ОтветитьI'm running a (budget) amp modeler into an (also budget) keyboard amp, or a straight up powered bluetooth speaker, and I never sounded better.
ОтветитьI had this amp for a few years and found I could get a some decent sounds. I used the third-party Mighter Lite app on Android which had better features for storing setups, and velcroed a rechargeable USB battery (I was using too many AA batteries). Finally, I sold it after I came across the Sonicake 10W Triangle Amp which is a bit smaller but has a better cleaner sound, built-in rechargeable USB battery and less of the features that I didn't care about (like the drum machine). Small amp choices and capabilities are fantastic compared to when I started (a few decades ago!).
ОтветитьLovely, funny and personal, video!! I only play at home. I use a Fender Mustang Micro sound in 1 ear, and my guitar lesson in the other ear. Mustang Micro Plus has an app. Very nice graphics and easy to use. Like the Nux it has lots of amps, pedals and combinations choices. Beautiful bit at the end of, I think, *Darn that dream*.
ОтветитьIn the box I'm spoiled for choice, but outside of the box I have 3 small amps in my 'studio' living room.
Valves -
Blackstar HT1 1 Watt 1x8"
Fender BluesBreaker 15 (Celestion V30) with Two Notes Captor X (+ Genome when needed)
Laney IRT Studio 15 1x12" (Turbosound).
Modelling -
Spark 40 with a battery pack.
I bought the battery pack JUST before the Spark 2 came out 🙄
Spark Mini - bedroom practise.
I also discovered that my bass amp makes a good FRFR for the Helix.
It was a stumble-upon discovery when I plugged an electro-acoustic into it.
TCE 250 1x12" + horn works fine.
Thanks for the overview. The size and relative quality of the NUX seems to be a great fit for the uses you describe, so that’s a plus. Reminds me of my old Pignose, for convenience but the NUX has better sound and FX.
It’s light. Does it stand up okay when you plug in, does the weight of your cable pull it over?
My main is an MB F-50, and my lighter gig amp is a Katana 100W combo. I added a back to it to tighten up the sound and tweak the settings extensively (your video helped, I recommend it to others 👍)
I can appreciate this amp now, its a viable option, thanks for another great video 👍👍
(The Tech 21 Flyrig is a great travel option too)
ANGRY COMMENT!!
Awesome video as always, as a pauper I'm always looking for genuinely affordable tech, cheers Jens!
Few years ago I purchased a Boss Katana Mini great little amp which also can run on batteries , it does have cab-simulated output for use with either headphones or direct out for recording, when you live in a small flat it's perfect for not upsetting the neighbours , I am thinking of getting a interface one day for direct recording ,
ОтветитьI got one of these to leave at a friends house for when I was staying over and was really surprised at how good it sounded. I even preferred it to my Spark amp which cost twice as much.
ОтветитьFender twin reverb solid state - great tone and flexibility. Best semi hollow: Gibson ES 137.
ОтветитьAs a matter of interest Jens, what cabinet do you use when using the FM3 live please?
ОтветитьOh yes! I got one and it's crazy! When you plug it in either in the PC or using the phone out it's wild! I use it all the time! And it can be powered by a normal power bank! And! It's also an audio interface!
ОтветитьIm in love with my Fender Tonemaster Twin.
ОтветитьI love amps more than guitars...
