We made a lot of mistakes in Scotland but the water was kept in public ownership which has been shown to be a wise decision. Our water and waste disposal is not perfect, but what a mess privatisation has caused in England.

When water boards were privatized the water bills got more expensive and people accepted that because the driver for privatisation was that the private companies could update the infrastructure, but instead higher bills have been funneled into excessive corporate profits for executives and share holders

The water Companies do NOT for fill their obligations correct and therefore should be made to either do so or be taken over for the sake of the environment, water is too precious resource to allow people to make vast profits from.😡

Its got nothing to do with 30 years of privatisation and lack of investment or the fact the population has exploded due to immigration. Lets not mention no new resovoirs since 1990. You know what i blame Brexit.

£1.6 million pay for a useless failure who is "proud to have contributed" just shows how corrupt the public utilities have become. Instead of spending money on what they were supposed to do - repairing leaks and sorting out the infrastructure - they only take pride in how much they can pay the donkeys at the top.

Privatisation has NEVER benefitted the public and this is a prime example of the cost of privatising utilities.

Water privatization was always flawed. No competetion for a start. My water supplier is an accident of geography not choice. Provision of clean water and removal of waste for the benefit of the community was the whole point of the Victorians when they established the current water systems. Its therefore surely the water companies core business requirement and any upgrades should come from their profits and investment. Invest to grow.

@3chords490

It’s simple. We needed to invest long term in the infrastructure back in the 80s. Thatcher chose the privatisation as the solution. It failed miserably because there was no profit in improving the systems. Then successive Governments turned a blind eye. Basically , as a country we just didn’t bother to invest in our future. Nobody bothered to point it out. We naively trusted our leaders that they would never let this insanity happen.Don’t blame the water companies. This is on all the Governments since 1980. As a country we fight over health , water , roads , railways etc.instead of planning. Everything becomes a political battle and common sense gets drowned out. We are a very strange nation. So patriotic when it comes to certain things , but unable to grasp the basics. If you don’t spend and invest in your future services and infrastructure then it will come back to haunt you. Many other countries seem to be able work this out. They get on with things whilst we fight and stay in denial , and our broken voting system is ripping us apart. We desperately need PR to force parties to cooperate on long term projects.
