Thanks so much for this!
ОтветитьLove your photography, love your beautiful and relatable stories that so often have a beautiful and relatable philosophy on life.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Great points well made. I think too many people want people to care about your photos, but it doesnt really matter.
ОтветитьTotally agree. Nobody gives a flying duck about "your" images. My photography has become more and more about "memories" of holidays. While my wife maybe taking those landscape photos that are wow; I'm snapping the outside of the cafe, the signpost pointing the way we have to go.
ОтветитьYou know who'll care about your photos? You and your family. My primary subject of photography is my toddler. Capturing special moments of her growing up that will stay with us our whole lives. I need a good gear to capture her sudden movements and expressions, which in a way is no different to photographing birds and animals. You never know what to expect and always have to be prepared. When she grows up she'll have her entire childhood captured through my lens, and this will be my gift to her.
ОтветитьGreat Topic!! Well thought out and on point!!
My observation is that people like photos that they can relate to which are; standing in the parking lot, blue skies, etc. Most people travel in the summer where blue skies rule.
All it takes is one to connect with a photo and that’s a win. And I still favor drama over blue skies.
Also to note life has more magic when there is someone to share it with, that connection is hard to find. Good on you guys.
Alex
Just a beautiful video today. Thankyou. I connect with this on so many levels. You’ve articulated something I had not even processed in my own mind and I love taking pictures. The story about the Lilly and your Grandmother was really special.
Very true
I shot 4000 photos in November for myself I guess
That realisation that no one cares about my photographs was the so liberating. The process of taking a photograph is what brings me joy. Whether that is with film or digitally. Yes, I do like it when someone reacts positively to my photography when I post online, but actually I don't care if they do or do not. Have a great Holiday period...
ОтветитьMen had the garden and hated God.
ОтветитьI've been taking photographs for myself for over 40-years. To be fair, others care more about what I'm taking a picture of. In fact, a snapshot of a cool place where it is realistic and puts the person is more liked than a highly stylized photo that was difficult to get. Photographers may care about the how, but people just care about the what.
ОтветитьHey man, my aunt likes them. But in all seriousness I agree.
ОтветитьAs soon as you showed the image of the lily I really liked it but after hearing the back story, I now care about it. Also, like many of the other commenters here, I very much enjoy your stories and look forward to the next one.
ОтветитьAlex - I'm glad I'm here too. Your content gets better and better and better. Thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьI love that terminology, ‘the attention economy of social media’. Brilliant
ОтветитьI've had a camera in hand since 1988... This is a compulsion that won't stop, I try to never care and keep on keeping it on. Sometimes I make money and this funds my compulsion, sometimes I'm the bank. It is liberating to let go of some illusion of quitting a day job. TBH my day job gives me time to work on photography... That's kewl.
ОтветитьGreat video Alex as always. Mike, Northern Ireland.
Ответитьhow does this have 4k views and 6k likes?
ОтветитьESPECIALLY in the age of Ai and extreme photo editing (yes, looking at you mate) where no one can tell what is real or NOT. Now everyone just defaults to "oh that image has been manipulated to an inch of it's life so scroll on". If you don't do photography just for yourself, photography has been RUINED.
ОтветитьYou make my day, thanks
ОтветитьI care about my photos and thats the only thing i need
ОтветитьI shoot for myself. Glad I have a nice paying job so I can enjoy my hobbies.
ОтветитьWhat I really liked was the interaction between you two. I also really liked the "no hand rails" walk way. It left the view wide open. I have been saying for years that my pictures were for me. Very few ever see my photos... and they see very few of what I do. It is just the way it is. I do not share my photos on line... I will share a photo if some one makes a request for it. My friend says I think more about what camera to carry than I do about what to wear. I admit she is right. So, your point about nobody caring is true. I just take what I want to take and sometimes I don't take one at all.
ОтветитьIt was good hearing that from someone. Makes me relax about this new hobby of mine.
ОтветитьGreat Vlog as usual. One that tells it as it is. Once again, Sophia added a little more depth to the narrative. It was a beautiful place for photography. The best photo in all that you showed, was the cat on the walkway.
Merry Christmas to you and Sophia. And I look forward to all that comes in 2025.🎄
Something I’ve been wrestling with lately is the fact that I’m amassing a mountain of photos that nobody will ever see because I have no clue what to do with them. Which is why this comment is brought to you by Squarespace… lol… no but seriously what the hell do I do with these damn things? At least Vivian Maier had negatives for someone to discover.
ОтветитьActually needed to hear this and it was perfect timing for it. Thank you for sharing. 😊
ОтветитьExactly, I only care about my own photos.
ОтветитьTruth.
ОтветитьEarly into my photography journey I was so keen on hunting for likes, needing to get “THE SHOT”. I did eventually gain a bunch of likes and also paid for a service to get ahead. But then afterwards, once I slowed down and didn’t post as often, I noticed that all those people (who still follow me) dont like my stuff. At first im like okay algorithm, but after I started taking photos of what I love and what took the most time to capture. Almost no one likes the photos anymore, but honestly Ive become my biggest supporter. I do get that appraisal every now and then once people hire me to take photos and see them, but overall when you take into perspective that social media is about entertainment and your craft is rather a personal pursuit and hobby, you can let go of the urgency to fish for likes.
ОтветитьWe loved Plitzvice when there in the Fall of 2023. Way more people there then. Beautiful in all seasons by the looks.
ОтветитьFantastic content Alex, your work and advice bring so much inspiration to me. Merry Christmas to you and Sophia..!!
ОтветитьGreat video. And I'm sure you'd get more like on the pic with the cat than your other gorgeous photos. Seriously though, great questions: why do you take photos and why do you share them. Why should we or anyone care or share any appreciation? Who knew good photography might require a certain level of introspection. BTW I hope things are alright with your friend / partner.

ОтветитьAlex, I regret to inform you that you and Sophia together, on camera, are just impossibly adorable. I can’t even. 😀
ОтветитьI was going to post but then again, I don't care. JK Honestly, I heart pictures that I enjoy. I appreciate all those who share their souls through their photographic art.
ОтветитьAlex, your commentary is perfect. I shoot photos for me and do not think about someone else's opinion of it, nor care. That said, if someone see one of my photographs and it makes a connection with them, that's great. Thank You!
ОтветитьGreat perspective. People used to like and comment on my photos quite a bit. Now, I mostly get ignored. Now that the novelty for them has worn off. Doesn’t really matter to me. I do it for myself only. Yelling into the void is okay with me.I don’t care that they don’t care. Hahaha! 🙂
ОтветитьWhen nobody cares, and that gives you the freedom! Yes. 100% correct. Sometimes it's hard to remember that, which is why the attitude of IDGAF matters. Do what you like, forget everyone else. Merry Christmas Alex.
ОтветитьWhere is that park?
ОтветитьMy mom cares.
ОтветитьTo me it's not that no one cares about your photography. It is about me, the artist and I'm the one that doesn't care about what others think about my work. This gives you freedom. After posting so many times I've come to realize the more artistic the photo is, the less it is liked by many. The likes I get about my creative images are from people that recognize art. There are so many poor images out there and there are only a few people that recognize what is good and what is bad, they have no comprehension of composition or lighting or creating a moment and the emotion from it. I've been making photographs for over 50 years, over 30 making advertising photograph for corporations and magazines, ad agencies. Then it's important to make them happy, my feelings often went out the window after I voiced my opinion. The customer is always right. I retired from that.
ОтветитьYou're so right. I love the leaves motif and you handle the sweet light very well.
ОтветитьFantastic video, new sub from me. This made me take stock of why i take photos. Its incredibly liberating when you realise no-one cares. Keep up the great work and happy holidays to you both. 😊
ОтветитьInteresseting video.
Why should someone cares about your photo?
I never understand why to put photos online in forums, insta, x etc, exceot when you have questiobswhat to improve or why sonething hasnt work: learn effect!
But 99% of posting people are after: yeah good photo. Great. For their Ego
When I share a photo, it’s more about sharing documentation of my journey, then the documentation of the subject.
ОтветитьIMO Sophie’s images were far more pleasing in their subtle colour balance. Yours were very over saturated and too warm
