It's really going to take them a year to properly nerf Drag but they don't have any problems adding more and more microtransactions ☠️

If there are 2 (or more) playable characters on the screen and they’re engaging in physical combat in order to lower a health bar (increase percentages in platformers’ cases) and win rounds to achieve victory, it’s a fighting game. The intricate system mechanics, camera angles, and even balance direction are all secondary to what I just named. So every arena fighter, 2D, 3D, platform fighter you can think of is a fighting game.

Fgc should claim every game that can be loosely considered a fighting game. Because if you like Tekken chances are you played street fighter. There many smash players who are playing Tekken now. So either we accept new people into community or we are left with low in game online

I disagree. Every replay should be available. That way people know how noobs, intermediate, advanced, & pro players play Tekken. What they should focus on is cease & desist on people channels trying to make money off of it.

People gatekeep whats a fighting game because they are used to not having fun grinding their game, so when they see another game being fun they need to drag it down by saying its not a real fighting game

I can understand DB franchise having success more from the long anime legacy than from the fighting mechanics itself. I believe these arena fighters won't ever appeal to the traditional FGC nor for martial arts enthusiasts like me, who crave more for games like Tekken, VF and DoA... There will be probably a crescent fear that Bamco shareholders start forcing DB mechanics into future Tekken games because "profits and dividends" are all that matters to these "people"...

The traditional fighter events or even locals are there for the love of those specific games. If they we're about making money or getting the most views then it would make sense to add party games like Smash or arena fighters like Sparking Zero. Those communities are bigger than ours, let them make their own events. There is a reason Fighters Z was allowed. Also on the whole replay fiasco, as it is right now when you boot up Tekken and play games you do not own your replay content and probably never will. These same streamers who complain about losing their content rarely even upload those matches themselves or make content out of it. On the other side they have no problem publicly clowning their opponents usernames and information during livestreams or humiliating them on social media. You can't have it both ways. My solution would be for BAMCO to only upload Ranked and Quick play matches to the servers. All other Replay Matches should be offline on the players pc or console only. Also add a Streamer mode BAMCO just like we had in Tekken 7....

Strong disagree regarding replays. Replay save files are just a series of stored inputs that get played back. Since everything is done in game, players should NOT have any rights to them and SHOULD be viewable for the public to see - as intended by the Tekken devs. If players don't want their footage to be seen, then don't play online - simple as that.

I don’t hate Dragonball Fighter Z. I love playing it. Fighter Z and Sparking Zero are different if you see them in gameplay. There’s a Dragonball Z game back in the arcade games in the 90s compared to what they are shown between that and Sparking Zero as of today.

I’m not sure if people are actually saying that these games are not fighting games. However, the FGC does not consider them viable tournament fighters. There’s a huge difference between a game being a fighter and a viable tournament fighter based on the developers willingness to update and consistently balance the game for tournament play. If the game is designed around tournament play, and is consistently balanced by the developer (regardless of how well they balanced the game) then that’s what tournament players seek to play when looking for a tournament viable fighter.

Sparking Zero is an arena fighter. Just like Smash is a platform fighter. They're too different from Tekken or Street fighter. Bruh. The issue is, we lack a term to explain regular 2D or 3D fighting games as their own genre, but the differences are significant enough for the arena fighter and platform fighter to be distinct sub-genres.

Its moreso that the genre of "fighting game" becomes useless when you include dragonball sparking. The argument for smash has always been stupid. Smash is a fighting game. Theres a reason why DB:BT and sparking and jojo eyes of heaven and jump force tend to be called arena fighters. Among REASONABLE people, its moreso about usefulness of the definition. If im looking for a new fighting game to play, i want something that has room to be competitive, highly individual characters, and learning the game should almost feel like learning a new language. Its not about elitism, i havent even been a part of fgc for very long so i wouldnt even have ground to gatekeep on. It doesnt make sparking a worse game by not being considered a fighting game.

Its like the difference between a character action game and a hack and slash. Very, very different genres that get melded together often. Devil may cry 3 and MGRR are completely different kinds of games than musou games or the og GoW trilogy. Ive been tricked into buying mediocre hack and slash games many times because a reviewer said "it plays like devil may cry"

Arena Fighters are different from Traditional Fighting Games despite sharing many similarities on a surface level. But that's not a reason to exclude them from the FGs.

1/ Traditional Fighting Games are typically 2D or 3D one-on-one games that are built around precise mechanics, balanced rosters (at least they try to keep it balanced ), and frame-by-frame timing. These games focus heavily on technical execution ( timed combos, knowledge checks, spacing, movement, and footsies etc), and understanding advanced mechanics like frame data, cancels, frame traps and mix-ups etc.

Arena Fighters (sometimes called "anime fighters" or "anime brawlers"), like DBZ BT and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, and now Sparking Zero are typically 3D games where characters move in larger, more open environments. They often emphasize flashy, cinematic moves and fast-paced action but tend to have simpler mechanics compared to traditional fighting games. The focus is more on spectacle and fan service (representing the source material) rather than deep, competitive balance.

2/ Competitive Viability

Traditional FGs like Tekken, Street Fighter, and KoF etc are designed from the ground up to be highly competitive, with mechanics that encourage consistent improvement through skill and strategy. These games thrive in a competitive environment like EVO because of their precision and depth, allowing for a clear distinction between casual and professional players.

Sparking Zero and NUNS, while fun and flashy, don't always offer the same level of competitive depth. They often include mechanics that make the game more random or easier to play without high-level mastery, such as powerful auto-combo systems, excessive cinematic attacks that disrupt the flow of gameplay, and sometimes mechanics that prioritize luck or fan appeal over technical skill.

3/ Balance and Character Roster

Competitive fighting games like Street Fighter and Tekken require rigorous balancing. The developers focus on making sure no character is overpowered (at least they try, again), and if they are, they are patched regularly.
In contrast, arena fighters and wrestling games tend to have larger rosters that are often less balanced. These games are designed with fan enjoyment in mind, often sacrificing balance for character inclusion and flashy moves. This can result in characters that are vastly stronger or weaker than others, making competitive play less fair or meaningful.

Now, do I think that games like Sparking Zero could be a part of E-sports/FG community and get their own tournaments and pro scene? Absolutely. The issue has always been the lack of willingness to accept them and it all boils down to the FG mentality. Let's admit, there's a lot of elitism there. Even if a game isn't a math test and frame-data driven, some people love it and want to play it and compete at the highest level. Also numbers speak for themselves, be it casual or not.
