Is the Defender Still King? Lexus GX550 vs. Land Rover Defender 110. Luxury Off-Road SUV Challenge.

I’m convinced no one in the comments have owned a JLR product. Look Lexus is known for reliability, but that’s it. The Defender FEELS AND LOOKS more luxurious. The drive quality as an off roader is also superior. I’m in a Mercedes currently but would still pick the JLR product

Have a caviar overtrail plus since July ,very satisfied with it . Purchased not leashed . Looked at the defender 110 preferred the Lexus.

Why would Germans buy Toyotas for taxis when they have subsidies to encourage them to buy cars made in their own hood? It would be dumb.

As for bragging Yota owners, give me a break. The Ford owners brag. The Charger owners brag. The Corvette owners, Porsche owners, and on and on. It’s a part of being a car enthusiast. You have your choice and your reasons.

My reasons are reliability. Yup, I’m finna brag. After 4 Camry’s, 2 Tacomas, a Tundra, and a Lexus, I don’t plan to buy any other brand, outside of a Porsche 911 S/T 😂😂😂 for retirement.

That’s awesome your dad got 400k on an Audi. I know of some, but the price they paid to keep it going was crazy. I like to deal with facts. Facts prove over and over again with real data, and not some one off anecdotal unicorn scenario, that Toyota’s/Lexus are not only the most reliable vehicles as a brand, but have the best resale. Are they boring? Possibly. Is that Lexus really Luxury? Doubtful. But 9 times outta ten it’s outlasting all the other crap out there if you take care of it.

I would go into the stories of my Yotas, but you’d say I’m bragging😂! I’ll say less.

Lexus is just a car. Land Rover is heritage, adventure, passion, history, 4x4 x far, camel trophy, etc…

Even in the movie Cars 2, the lemon boss car was a Land Rover. They do make beautiful cars but never reliable cars. Lexus is way better overall and specially for longevity and value.

It's soooooo funny hearing the LR dude talk about reliability! Hilarious! How many years in a row has LR brand been the bottom feeder in reliability??? The nerve! Stick the feel, drive, look, luxury, ride, comfort.... For which I love LR. Just don't even bring up LR, for which I admire them from afar and NEVER give them my money! I just appreciate sitting in them and seeing them pass by. So beautiful.

For daily use, the Defender is much better choice. It drives pretty much like a car rather than truck but is still very capable offroad and still gives you that commanding seting position (what i am after in this type of SUV's). Also you can access it much more conveniently. If you have to often cary someone with mobility issues like me, forget about the GX or LandCruiser...seniors with mobility issues can't exit or enter it on their own, they need assistance each time and it is also stressful for them (now i talk about my own experience with my mother). I am currently driving Lexus RX but will be switching to Defender. To me, thay have absoultely nailed it with the Defender!

OverTrail is the off-road variant. Regular is the Pavement Princess. 21" wheels.
Recovery hooks are underneath adjacent to the skid plate. Aftermarket bright color plates are available.
You can customize the gauge cluster to your driver profile if you want o see the off-road telemetry. Tundra made in Texas, San Antonio, engine made in Huntsville AL, GX is Japan made.

I agree with sam . The lexus is the land cruiser with a blazer on. I recntly compare both at the autoshow and also felt the landcruiser regardless of its heritage feels more utility then the new four runner. Materials are just not there. I also prefer the look of defender . I think a better comparison would be the 4 runner vs defender with the 4cy or 6

Honestly this the least informative video about the GX. Did you mention that you have the Overtrail? Did you discuss that the GX has variable suspension settings based on five drive modes? In Sport plus the GX suspension tightens up! Did you compare the very different four wheel drive systems of each vehicle? No.
And finally the recall of Toyota engines in the tundra and Lexus LS does not include the GX. You needed to research that before giving reliability opinions.

Toyota fans are like the plague. They hold on to this myth that they don’t break and they are the best in all categories wich is BS. They even go out of their way to go comment on other videos of Land Rovers even when no Toyota is being tested. The Defender is the better vehicle with way more options and even a 2 door version. So it’ll definitely be my pick.

Yet land rovers sit on dealer lots or in the shop waiting for warranty work.. hmm, I wonder which one I’m going with lol

The Lexus GX550 is the one to go. I own a automotive shop and every month there is either a range Rover or land rover in my shop for repairs.

Nah. The GX550 OT is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Ever. I can't cosign on this.

Look at the camber set up on the wheels of the Land Rover compared to the Lexus. Not that it matters to buyers of SUV's but that LR would each the Lexus' lunch on a twisty mountain road. Meantime LR has 900mm wading depth. Japs build reliability but JLR certainly know how to build performance. Design wise there isn't a wasted line on the Defender, whereas the Lexus is a disaster of messy lines. Lexus enjoying the mantle for the more embarrassingly stupid grill designs ever known to man.

A funny comparison that talks about Lexus being more expensive than the Defender, and you brought the higher-end Defender and did not mention that it is much more expensive than it , and v8 cheaper than lexus 🤣🤣🤣

I own defender 23.5MY and I can say the reliability is far better than Mercedes at least. Every single Mercedes had many minor issues during the first year after delivery which was always annoying. But my defender has no issue at all for 1.5 years. No idea about the long term but I’m really satisfied so far.

Test drove both, finally went with gx550. The exterior is just so cool.

No compariosn the Toyota is the way better product and will surely hold way better value, especially the OT trims.

The engine is robust and reliable, just debris left inside could make stalled engine. Toyota will replace 110 l+ of those engines for new ones.
