Silvia Baraldini in Vienna – Anti-colonial Resistance in the West, Dar al Janub 2023

Silvia Baraldini (Rome, 1947) is a former US political prisoner condemned because of her activities in support of the Black Liberation Army She served a total of 25 years in both the US and Italy She is part of a generation that was organised, and understood that building alliances with the struggles for national liberation based on solidarity and the fight against white supremacy was key in the battle against US imperialism.in so doing that generation posed a threat to the colonial hegemony of the West and sided with the resistance of the Global South.

As her comrade Assata Shakur- whose liberation she partook in - said:
"It is our duty to fight for our freedom. [...] We must love each other and support each other." While the movement of those years may have suffered great setbacks, its impact is still relevant today on the one hand its strength forced the state to introduce counter-insurgency and co-optation strategies that are still in use on the other its history has not been forgotten despite the institutional efforts to erase it.
