“ Emmerich also dives into an aspect of the battle, and by extension the entire Pacific War, that often only receives passing acknowledgement: war crimes. While Midway was a massive tactical and strategic victory for the United States, many U.S. airmen were shot down, and those unfortunate enough to be captured by the enemy were met with extremely cruel ends. Frank O'Flaherty and Bruno Gaido, the pilot and tail-gunner of an SBD Dauntless (pictured above), are shown as having been captured and imprisoned on a Japanese destroyer (via Smithsonian Magazine). According to accounts from the ship's crew, after being questioned the two were tied to oil drums full of water (an anchor in the film) and shoved overboard.”
ОтветитьSAILOR!!!! NOT SOLDIER!!!! LEARN YOUR BRANCHES PLEASE PEOPLE!!!! As a Navy Vet it always annoys me when people confuse branches. The aircrewman in the clip was wearing dungarees for crying out loud and flew from a carrier...hence he was a SAILOR!
Ответитьdidn't take long to figure that this movie is mediocre at best and not worth watching
ОтветитьBrave soldier. John 15:13 There is no greater love.................... The lives that he saved by not telling him where their ships are.
Ответитьwhere is the soldier being thrown overboard the title in this lies there is no one in the army even in this i mean i feel bad for the seamen that dies but there is no soldier in this just a poor navy sailor who dies when his airplane goes down and then gets picked up by the japs
ОтветитьThat’s not an American SOLDIER! 🤦🏻♂️
ОтветитьMy Grandfather was at Pearl Harbor Dec. 7th (Navy Pilot), told me they had a Japanese exchange pilot training with them in their flight wing. During the attack he committed suicide by eating the lenses of his glasses, so they never knew if he was a spy or afraid of what would happen to him. True story here.
ОтветитьI can’t believe they are so racist to cast a bunch of Japanese guys as the Japanese…😂
ОтветитьDude died like a man
Ответитьnot much has changed but we live under water
ОтветитьDid those pilots have parachutes on their backs?
ОтветитьIs this just a fictional scene?
Ответитьfuck going overboard id tell the admiral everything lol
ОтветитьHollywood is a cancer on humanity
ОтветитьA perversion of Bushido.....and why I have no sympathy for Hiroshima and Nagasaki...or all the other cities we incinerated conventionally.
Ответитьit just came back to me
Ответитьit wasn't an American soldier. It was a Jonas brother.
Ответить*sailor
ОтветитьCould you get it right. A sailor not a solider. Credibility lost!
ОтветитьThe japs were brutal during ww2 barbaric tactics used. You can read about it
ОтветитьSailor
ОтветитьThe truth be told the pilot and gunner were beaten and interrogated. When the Japanese were through with them they tied them both in chains and threw both overboard to drown. Never trust Hollywood to tell the full story.
ОтветитьI doubt anyone would be so nonchalant about being thrown overboard like that.
ОтветитьThat's a USN Sailor.
ОтветитьI don't like the Jonas Brothers either, but that seems a little excessive.
ОтветитьThe graphics look very fake. When was this crap filmed, 2001?
Ответитьjust another self loving American Hollywood BS movie
ОтветитьThey got nuked twice for doing that... and many more atrocities during WW2.
ОтветитьHe was sailor, not a soldier.
ОтветитьTrump would call them suckers and losers bc he doesn't like soldiers who were caught.
ОтветитьThe japanese saw his guitarsolo, the real reason to throw him overboard.
ОтветитьAmerican SAILOR Thrown Overboard
ОтветитьAnd yet Japan still denies the things they did.
ОтветитьI’d have been tempted to try my hand at improv and invented two new task forces. Task Force Bravo and Task Force Sierra. Taffy BS for short. Slightly longer than previous models, The top secret carriers Chaplin and Keaton were designed to be more silent and maneuverable. Probably wouldn’t work, but it could delay things. Maybe.
ОтветитьThey didn't waste a bullet, but they did waste an anchor. I guess it added to the overall drama.
ОтветитьI remember my Dad telling stories ( ashamedly ) of what they did to Japanese soldiers on Saipan . That was a result of this .
ОтветитьI'd say this isn't Christian and a violation of the Geneva convention, but the Japanese at the time didn't respect either.
ОтветитьBanzai
ОтветитьIt’s so sad that in reality that these men went through so much worse. Often pilots captured at midway were BRUTALLY tortured before being killed. One story I heard about one of the Ensign pilots, who got picked up by the IJN was tortured, and sentenced to death, he was then attacked by the crew with an axe, tried to hang on to the ship whilst the crew hacked his hand off and left him to drown.
ОтветитьEveryone saying “Like that would really happen” uh… this literally happened except it was worse. The men were interrogated, beaten, then tied to a weight of some sort (possibly an anchor) and thrown overboard.
O’Flaherty and Gaido were picked up by the Japanese destroyer IJN Makigumo.
After an interrogation, Weights were tied to both and they were thrown over the side to drown. Japanese accounts state that both met their end with stoic and dignified defiance.
So believable when its casted for a boy band singer. WTF
ОтветитьAnd people say the British Empire was the worst in history ?
ОтветитьFor a culture that had such a emphasis on honor the japanese showed an astonishing lack of it.
ОтветитьLucky that they had a spare anchor.
ОтветитьHe had it easy compared to most pows
ОтветитьHey that's the busy bee guy from Best in Show
ОтветитьThis movie was SO STUPID
ОтветитьGet your headlines straight. He’s a sailor, not a soldier. Big difference
ОтветитьI love american war movies, they are so realistic........muahahaha.
The jap. DD stops an lay in the water as a sitting duck for every sub.
