In today’s video I’m going to show you how to fix the volume on your computer when it’s too low.
1. The first thing I recommend checking if you’re using external speakers or headphones is to ensure that the volume dial or volume scroller on the device, if present, is turned all the way up.
2. If this doesn’t solve the issue for you, then the next thing to do is to go into the system tray in the bottom right corner of the screen, click on the speaker icon, and ensure the volume is turned all the way up.
3. If that solution didn’t resolve the issue, then the next thing to try is to go into the Windows start bar, type in “Control Panel”, and click on the Control Panel search result to open it up.
4. Once the Control Panel application opens up, click on the “Sound” option. This will open up a dialog window displaying your computer’s sound settings.
5. From this screen, all of your audio playback devices will be displayed here. Ensure that the sound device you’re trying to hear sound from is set to default on this screen, if not, right click on the audio device, and click on the “Set as Default Device” menu option.
6. Now click on the “Communications” tab. From this screen, you’ll want to ensure that the “Do nothing” option is selected.
7. Now click on the “Apply” button, and then “OK”.
8. If the steps so far haven’t resolved your sound issues, then the next option you can try is to click on the “Sound” menu option again from the Control Panel.
9. Now click on the speaker sound device, and then click on the “Properties” button.
10. A speaker properties window will now display. From here, click on the “Levels” tab, and then ensure that the volume slider is set all the way up to 100.
11. Now click on the “Apply” button, and then “OK”.
12. If all of the methods so far haven’t resolved your audio issues, then the final thing you can try is by going into the Windows Start Bar, and typing in “Find and fix problems with playing sound”, and then clicking on the first result.
13. A “Playing audio” dialog window will now display, click on the “Next” button.
14. Windows will now begin scanning your system to look for any issues with your audio device.
15. You’ll then be asked what audio device you’re having issues with. I’m going to select my headphones.
16. Now click on the “Next” button.
17. You’ll then be presented with a screen asking you to turn off all sound effects and audio enhancements with your audio device.
18. If you do have any sound effects or enhancements enabled, then click on the first option, and disable them all.
19. I’m going to click on the “No, Do not open audio enhancements” option.
20. If an issue was present, Windows will tell you what it encountered here, and whether it was able to fix it or not.
