:D Like Louis Rossman :) Diagnose 1 hour in a slowing macos, then open the hood find a fucked part of board. Change one resistor and good to go. :)
I made the same mistake with a HP z22w monitor. That bloody thing has the same power and usb connector to main board. So I sent 12 + 5v to data input :) Because I am a genius... USB Controller IC fried.... After that become obvious the screen is also bad.

Talk about value added piece of kit...
That sub amp has a renewed lease on life.
Well done in the end, don't you just love it when persistence wins in the end? I do 👍

Just goes to show that some people can spin screwdrivers, but it doesn't mean they can fix things... :P

I hate the fact most of these go directly into the transformer after the master switch is on. Even in standby they can pull 10 watts 24/7, so I power mine down each time. They should have a seperate 5 volt or what's needed to switch the transformer out in standby. Surprised the transformer output didn't fry the final outputs with wrong plugs?

Well done, it's alive again :-D
Yep regulators going weeeeeeeee lol.
It's not your fault that the asshole that touched it swapped plugs.

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups and you fucked up assuming the speaker and power connections were in the correct places.

FF. Important. You really need to build a dim-bulb tester. You know what it is. In this repair, you would not get a kW rushing into the unit, potentially melting stuff, instead it would just light your 100W bulb that's in series with the power line. Essential stuff for repairs. A bulb is brilliant for this because it's a non-linear resistance, increasing drastically when it lights. So when an unit is drawing 20W, it's dropping the voltage just a tiny bit. Furthermore you can see on the bulb what's happening. Add a bypass switch for the bulb. You may want two lamp sockets. An old 230V timer is ideal for converting.

I've run into the same thing. I really hate it when the silkscreening on the board is either nonexistent or obscured from view. It makes things a bit harder to figure out. A little simple logic and work though, and things usually turn out right as rain. Good work man...

Same thing happened when we RnR-ed a cyl head. I pulled the head and had to unplug some of the loom, and another guy put the head back on but couldn't start the engine. The plugs were similar, but I don't know why he grabbed the plug further away rather than the one that was close.

Must be the crappy capxon caps that cause the initial culprit.
