I can’t see how any democrat could win in 1968 with George Wallace running a third-party campaign. With RFK leading the Democratic ticket, conservative Protestant Democrats in the north would have turned to Wallace. The Wallace/LeMay ticket likely would have done better in the Electoral College against RFK than they did in the RL election against HHH

I was 10 when he was killed. I grew up assuming his victory in California would ensure the nomination. In later years I have heard the LBJ and his forces still controlled the delegates. is that true?

- Reagan's VP Jack Kemp wins the 1984 and 1988 Elections (with his VP being George HW Bush)

- Democratic Party leadership influence Jesse Jackson to run in 1992 and he wins the nomination over Bill Clinton

- Jackson beats Bush in the 1992 election and serves 2 terms as President

He would not have been nominated. Lyndon Johnson, the head of the party, would have moved heaven and Earth to prevent it. At that time, only 15% of delegates were chosen in primaries, the remainder was chosen by party bosses, and Lyndon Johnson was the head boss of the party, even so Nixon likely would have defeated Kennedy. And we would have had Nixon just the same in 1969.

And maybe his son wouldn't be so screwed up.
