Thanks Ethan!!!
ОтветитьThank you. I learned something new today.
ОтветитьThis was extremely helpful for a novice like me. Thanks again.
ОтветитьThat was helpful. Thank you!
ОтветитьThanks for the very good information.
ОтветитьNice to hear that the way the trim is sold in the US is the same here in Denmark. But a big help for all DIY’s out there
ОтветитьLowes doesn't typically have cut stations and if you only see a panel saw don't expect to pay for just the piece you cut. People come in all the time thinking they can buy by the linear foot, and I get funny looks from them because they think I'm being an asshole. My manager or no one else has ever told me anything about buying by the linear foot, and I've worked there for two years now.
ОтветитьBetween you and Steve Ramsay, these videos are a huge help for relatively new woodworkers like myself. Thanks.
ОтветитьThe most empowering thing I did in my getting to be long life was buying a corded drill and going to HD for plywood and and 2x4. They made simple cuts and I took them home. I made a simple platform with legs for my van. Note: grew up under the 'ol dbl std' so girl and boy jobs were clear cut. Thank you. I didn't know about the cut notes on labels
ОтветитьHuh I always thought the off cuts in the back of the bin were free and never even rang them up at the self checkout. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ОтветитьOMG- I never knew this! When my kids were little and we needed little pieces here and their fir science fair projects- we would just go and get it from the cut stations! An employee told us once we could and we just have been doing that if it was there for little pieces! Lesson learned but better late than never! Lol ❤️😜
ОтветитьAll good information! Now, if people could only not dull the heck out of those saws on the steel table!
Ответитьi wish I had this a couple weeks ago as I was roaming the aisles looking for someone to help me figure out how to buy trim haha. Good to know about the trim bucket for next time
ОтветитьThanks. I always wondered about this, and usually ended up taking more than I needed.
ОтветитьI'm a beginning DIY'er, and yes, thank you! You educated me today on trim pieces, and the "Lf, verses "Ea" pieces . I didn't know this information before this video. Thanks again!
ОтветитьI've never been shy about asking for a discount at HD or Lowes on damaged or close out stuff or in case of those cut off pieces . Another way to get a really low price is to make an offer to buy all the cut offs . They may price it so low ,even if you don't want it all it's still less than what you'd spent on what you wanted.
ОтветитьI make all my own moldings with 75 year old craftsman molding maker bits i got off eBay for 20 dollars. I bought 130 1x2s that were painted to use as nailers for a tin roof for 100 bux. I roofed our house with them and noticed they were really hard to not split.Ran one through the planer to strip it and found out they were maple. I've made miles of moldings from them.
ОтветитьDon't buy trim at the big box stores! Most profiles are about double what you pay at a real lumberyard. You may have an 8' minimum but they will cut it up however you want. The last I checked, the 3 1/4" inch baseboard was $1.22 a foot, 1.10 with military discount. It was $0.59 a foot at the lumberyard and better quality.
ОтветитьThe thing I noticed and took away from this video is the ridiculous prices of the trim. Let’s Go Brandon!
ОтветитьI buy my mouldings like this most of the time. Go in with a cut list so it’s easier to transport. If on that list, i need 3 pieces at 3’, i will just cut one 9’ piece, or see if there’s 3 pieces in the bin. Please people, don’t abuse the system or they’ll stop using it. It’s great way to save a few bucks and only be left with a handful of short cutoffs.
Ответить....sounds like you leaving where the snow doesn't go...... Am I right? ha ha ha great video. I am a new subscribers (1 week) and I enjoy your channel. Thanks a lot
ОтветитьInfo always great. Please, please fix (upgrade) the audio pick up. Something is off with the audio.
ОтветитьYikes, these videos are def zeroing in on the niche DIY viewer
ОтветитьThanks for the explanation. It's sometimes hard to find an employee who could answer explain these things.
ОтветитьI've always been confused about this at home depot. I just finally give up and buy my trim only from Lowe's. Plus the idea of standing there sawing if I don't have to was unnecessary to me. But thank you for clarifying this.
ОтветитьOne other thing, you may find one or more loose 12' or 16' pieces with no bar code. It's likely they were removed from an item called a Pro Pack. At HD, they might sell the single stick to you, but don't count on it.
ОтветитьGood to know!
ОтветитьHi, totally unrelated to this video but I wanted to suggest a video idea. I know you've done a couple videos on specific screws but it would be really helpful to have a rundown of all the types of fasteners like screws, lag bolts etc and when to use them. I was looking at project plans today which included lag bolts and realized I don't really know what lag bolts are "supposed" to be used for. I'm the kind of woodworker that uses drywall screws for jigs and deck screws for shop builds like work benches so this would be a big help!
ОтветитьSimple ,great video,Thanks.
ОтветитьSuper job on explaining these cut stations! I used them last year when I was remodeling my powder room, kitchen and laundry room. Super easy and, best of all, convenient!!
ОтветитьGreat video Ethan!!
ОтветитьCan I be a carpenter if I don’t like heights, or should I look into another trade?
ОтветитьI use to work and home depot and hated all the waste that was created by people not understanding how this system works. Well done.
ОтветитьHi! If making uniform and controlled pushes/pulls, any reason why you recommend small pushes/pull over long ones?
ОтветитьWhen I buy cutoffs at Woodcraft, never molding, I can take any length I want as long as the cutoff that I leave behind is at least 4'. The staff will always do the cutting. If the store is not busy and I ask nicely, they'll even surface and joint one edge of the piece I'm taking. Try getting anyone at Lowe's, Home Depot, or other lumber yard to do that for you.
ОтветитьThanks! I kinda figured this out at my last HD visit, where they cut some pre-primed pine (as learned from one of your previous videos!) for me. Now I know to ask about the leftover bits from pieces at the cutting station. By the way, have gotten some bargains from the cull pile - thanks for that video!
ОтветитьThank you once again for clarification. A DIYer is not born with this knowledge.
ОтветитьDid you organize that trim aisle yourself before filming? My local big box stores look like they do a drive-by offloading for their lumber and trim.
ОтветитьGreat video! One tip for the bar code on the cut trim piece. If you somehow end up with a piece that doesn't have a bar code, just take a photo with your phone of the price sticker on the rack. The cashier can get the item number off of that. If you don't have your phone with you to take a photo, just note the item number. I've done the photo bit more than once, & it has proven quite helpful in getting out faster!
ОтветитьDo you have plans to review table top planers?
ОтветитьI found that very interesting, thanks. I did not know I could buy some trim by the LF.
ОтветитьBuy a sheet of MDF and make your own trim. As long as you seal it properly you'll never know the difference
That's how you save monies
I wish you were my brother, neighbor or journeyman. Thank you for another great video.
ОтветитьThank you so much for this video! I am attempting to DIY my kitchen and I don't have a truck to haul anything long. This info is very helpful. 👍
ОтветитьThank you for making me feel like less of a jackass when I go to Home Depot.
ОтветитьAs a big box employee at a home improvement store, this is the most obvious video of my life. HOWEVER, I now have a better perspective of how customers view this system, and it couldn't be more evident than some of the comments.
ОтветитьI don’t disagree, being able to buy only what you need is nice but you are paying a price for that. The cost of trim lumber is 40 greater at the big box stores then what it is at the local lumber yards and the quality of that lumber is much better. There is no dispute that the quality of trim or all of the lumber at the big box stores is garbage BUT it is convenient so weigh the benefit.
ОтветитьI bought a house and baseboard installation is on my to do list, so this video is very informative and appreciated. Since I need a whole houseful I will have boards delivered but I have a partially done bathroom that I need a shorter piece for so will be visiting the cut off station. Thanks for educating me on the procedure.
ОтветитьThank you for mentioning to put long pieces back in the proper bay. People leave everything everywhere at the stores and it's a huge problem. This is the kind of essential suggestion that you hear only on this channel.
ОтветитьThe big box store ought have an employee cut them if they sell them by the ft. and they can be certain it's not the side with
the stapled label.
